How exactly is it teaching?? Reading scriptures is activity in physical creation which does not necessarly transcend our own minds and our own being.
Gurus are not meant to teach or indoctrinate .The Guru is here to throw light on dimesnions beyond your sensory perceptions .Gurus is supposed to throw light on the very nature of consciouness .
Thank you for your question. I notice your questions on this site are often very challenging and some may interpret your challenging perspectives as your ideation towards always seeing "glass as half full". I differ and I see in your perspective the "half empty portion of the glass" does provide an opportunity to learn and grow so that the glass is eventually full.
1) You asked the question, and I quote: "Reading scriptures is activity in physical creation which
does not necessarly[sic] transcend our own minds and our own being".
You see, I have bolded three words in your statement.
These three words tell me that you actually do know in your heart ( but refusing to acknowledge it for whatever reason) that there are
probably some who do transcend the bounds of duality. Gurbani underscores this very point succinctly many times over:
ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਸਦਾ ਦੁਖ ਭੰਜਨ ਤਾ ਸਿਉ ਮਨੁ ਨ ਲਗਾਨਾ ॥
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੋਟਨ ਮੈ ਕਿਨਹੂ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਇ ਪਛਾਨਾ ॥
(Among millions, only a rare few, as Gurmukh, realize God. )
So reading scriptures, learning from them and inculcating the wisdom do help transcend the bounds of duality. However only a few succeed because the path is very treacherous [ Gurbani underscores it - please just read full Anand Sahib]. So we must try to become one the among such few.
2) Next you write: " Gurus are not meant to teach or indoctrinate .The Guru is here to throw light on dimesnions[sic] beyond your sensory perceptions"
My friend, unless one is incarcerated or in a similar place where he is indoctrinated, real teaching means sharing of knowledge and this is what university professors and teachers do all the time - they share knowledge; we learn from the insights our teachers share based on our capacity to learn. Our Gurus did exactly ( as you state) threw light on dimensions that are beyond our sensory perceptions so that we LEARN ABOUT THE
ONE AND HIS CREATION WHICH OUR MINDS ARE NOT ABLE TO FATHOM, OTHERWISE.
3) Finally you threw in a very loaded word "Consciousness". I do not know if you really know what you are alluding to or you just threw it for the sake of throwing a random thought. Mind, Brian and Consciousness has been a very complex and circulatory problem for years in the scientific world with no real answer. Gurbani throws only a partial light on the Nature of the Creator ( Super Consciousness - as some call Him - Parm Atma); there is so much more light that existed even before our Gurus came into existence; and there is much more still out there that has been beyond our Gurus' capacity to fathom.
Yes, Gurus were here to throw light for us to learn, grow and transcend the barriers of duality.
