I know there have been lots of discussions. But none come to any conclusions and ended being very long threads adding more to frustration of a seeker.

sorry, and I am not being twee, but what is spirituality? I cannot answer your question until you define spirituality in a way that I can relate to

"SPIRITUALITY" comes as "EXPRESSION" to "Humans"

"Humans" know very less of "TRUE" nature and hence cannot express.

"EXPRESSION" of "TRUTH" of "NATURE"

If one can "EXPRESS" all of "TRUE" nature one is "SPIRITUAL"

One can take the imagination of "MIND" to back years

How human could have survived, in hot deserts and cold deserts.

What food was given by nature to "SUSTAIN" life.

A hungry human will "SUSTAIN" life by his intelligence by "NATURE"

On Eating Meat

What is meat?

Is it contain basic elements of which all life form is made

What food one should have

Reply was clear : That food is good to consume which shall not cause harm to "SELF"

One shall not form "MIND" on these issues,

And mind shall be "FREE" to absorb "GURU's BANI"

Most of life is lost in false discussions and

One can not Conclude his own "SELF"

Always seeking support for "SELF" on "ISSUES" through false discussion.

This is a fruitless discussion, and you (seeker) are wasting precious breaths by engaging in it. Instead, focus and meditate on the Lord.

Guru Nanak Sahib advises:

Shalok, First Mehl:

ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਮਾਸਹੁ ਨਿੰਮਿਆ ਮਾਸੈ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਵਾਸੁ ॥
Pahilāʼn māsahu nimmi▫ā māsai anḏar vās.
First, the mortal is conceived in the flesh, and then he dwells in the flesh.

ਜੀਉ ਪਾਇ ਮਾਸੁ ਮੁਹਿ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹਡੁ ਚੰਮੁ ਤਨੁ ਮਾਸੁ ॥
Jī▫o pā▫e mās muhi mili▫ā had cẖamm ṯan mās.
When he comes alive, his mouth takes flesh; his bones, skin and body are flesh.

ਮਾਸਹੁ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਕਢਿਆ ਮੰਮਾ ਮਾਸੁ ਗਿਰਾਸੁ ॥
Māsahu bāhar kadẖi▫ā mammā mās girās.
He comes out of the womb of flesh, and takes a mouthful of flesh at the breast.

ਮੁਹੁ ਮਾਸੈ ਕਾ ਜੀਭ ਮਾਸੈ ਕੀ ਮਾਸੈ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਸਾਸੁ ॥
Muhu māsai kā jībẖ māsai kī māsai anḏar sās.
His mouth is flesh, his tongue is flesh; his breath is in the flesh.

ਵਡਾ ਹੋਆ ਵੀਆਹਿਆ ਘਰਿ ਲੈ ਆਇਆ ਮਾਸੁ ॥
vadā ho▫ā vī▫āhi▫ā gẖar lai ā▫i▫ā mās.
He grows up and is married, and brings his wife of flesh into his home.

ਮਾਸਹੁ ਹੀ ਮਾਸੁ ਊਪਜੈ ਮਾਸਹੁ ਸਭੋ ਸਾਕੁ ॥
Māsahu hī mās ūpjai māsahu sabẖo sāk.
Flesh is produced from flesh; all relatives are made of flesh.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਬੁਝੀਐ ਤਾਂ ਕੋ ਆਵੈ ਰਾਸਿ ॥
Saṯgur mili▫ai hukam bujẖī▫ai ṯāʼn ko āvai rās.
When the mortal meets the True Guru, and realizes the Hukam of the Lord's Command, then he comes to be reformed.

ਆਪਿ ਛੁਟੇ ਨਹ ਛੂਟੀਐ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਚਨਿ ਬਿਣਾਸੁ ॥੧॥
Āp cẖẖute nah cẖẖūtī▫ai Nānak bacẖan biṇās. ||1||
Releasing himself, the mortal does not find release; O Nanak, through empty words, one is ruined. ||1||

Mās mās kar mūrakẖ jẖagṛe gi▫ān ḏẖi▫ān nahī jāṇai.
The fools argue about flesh and meat, but they know nothing about meditation and spiritual wisdom.

ਕਉਣੁ ਮਾਸੁ ਕਉਣੁ ਸਾਗੁ ਕਹਾਵੈ ਕਿਸੁ ਮਹਿ ਪਾਪ ਸਮਾਣੇ ॥
Ka▫uṇ mās ka▫uṇ sāg kahāvai kis mėh pāp samāṇe.
What is called meat, and what is called green vegetables? What leads to sin?

ਗੈਂਡਾ ਮਾਰਿ ਹੋਮ ਜਗ ਕੀਏ ਦੇਵਤਿਆ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੇ ॥
Gaiʼndā mār hom jag kī▫e ḏeviṯi▫ā kī bāṇe.
It was the habit of the gods to kill the rhinoceros, and make a feast of the burnt offering.

ਮਾਸੁ ਛੋਡਿ ਬੈਸਿ ਨਕੁ ਪਕੜਹਿ ਰਾਤੀ ਮਾਣਸ ਖਾਣੇ ॥
Mās cẖẖod bais nak pakṛėh rāṯī māṇas kẖāṇe.
Those who renounce meat, and hold their noses when sitting near it, devour men at night.

ਫੜੁ ਕਰਿ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੋ ਦਿਖਲਾਵਹਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਨਹੀ ਸੂਝੈ ॥
Faṛ kar lokāʼn no ḏikẖlāvahi gi▫ān ḏẖi▫ān nahī sūjẖai.
They practice hypocrisy, and make a show before other people, but they do not understand anything about meditation or spiritual wisdom.

ਨਾਨਕ ਅੰਧੇ ਸਿਉ ਕਿਆ ਕਹੀਐ ਕਹੈ ਨ ਕਹਿਆ ਬੂਝੈ ॥
Nānak anḏẖe si▫o ki▫ā kahī▫ai kahai na kahi▫ā būjẖai.
O Nanak, what can be said to the blind people? They cannot answer, or even understand what is said.

ਅੰਧਾ ਸੋਇ ਜਿ ਅੰਧੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਸਿ ਲੋਚਨ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
Anḏẖā so▫e jė anḏẖ kamāvai ṯis riḏai sė locẖan nāhī.
They alone are blind, who act blindly. They have no eyes in their hearts.

ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਕੀ ਰਕਤੁ ਨਿਪੰਨੇ ਮਛੀ ਮਾਸੁ ਨ ਖਾਂਹੀ ॥
Māṯ piṯā kī rakaṯ nipanne macẖẖī mās na kẖāʼnhī.
They are produced from the blood of their mothers and fathers, but they do not eat fish or meat.

ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਪੁਰਖੈ ਜਾਂ ਨਿਸਿ ਮੇਲਾ ਓਥੈ ਮੰਧੁ ਕਮਾਹੀ ॥
Isṯarī purkẖai jāʼn nis melā othai manḏẖ kamāhī.
But when men and women meet in the night, they come together in the flesh.

ਮਾਸਹੁ ਨਿੰਮੇ ਮਾਸਹੁ ਜੰਮੇ ਹਮ ਮਾਸੈ ਕੇ ਭਾਂਡੇ ॥
Māsahu nimme māsahu jamme ham māsai ke bẖāʼnde.
In the flesh we are conceived, and in the flesh we are born; we are vessels of flesh.

ਗਿਆਨੁ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਕਛੁ ਸੂਝੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਚਤੁਰੁ ਕਹਾਵੈ ਪਾਂਡੇ ॥
Gi▫ān ḏẖi▫ān kacẖẖ sūjẖai nāhī cẖaṯur kahāvai pāʼnde.
You know nothing of spiritual wisdom and meditation, even though you call yourself clever, O religious scholar.

ਬਾਹਰ ਕਾ ਮਾਸੁ ਮੰਦਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਘਰ ਕਾ ਮਾਸੁ ਚੰਗੇਰਾ ॥
Bāhar kā mās manḏā su▫āmī gẖar kā mās cẖangerā.
O master, you believe that flesh on the outside is bad, but the flesh of those in your own home is good.

ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਸਭਿ ਮਾਸਹੁ ਹੋਏ ਜੀਇ ਲਇਆ ਵਾਸੇਰਾ ॥
Jī▫a janṯ sabẖ māsahu ho▫e jī▫e la▫i▫ā vāserā.
All beings and creatures are flesh; the soul has taken up its home in the flesh.

ਅਭਖੁ ਭਖਹਿ ਭਖੁ ਤਜਿ ਛੋਡਹਿ ਅੰਧੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਜਿਨ ਕੇਰਾ ॥
Abẖakẖ bẖakẖėh bẖakẖ ṯaj cẖẖodėh anḏẖ gurū jin kerā.
They eat the uneatable; they reject and abandon what they could eat. They have a teacher who is blind.

ਮਾਸਹੁ ਨਿੰਮੇ ਮਾਸਹੁ ਜੰਮੇ ਹਮ ਮਾਸੈ ਕੇ ਭਾਂਡੇ ॥

Meat is allowed in the Puraanas, meat is allowed in the Bible and the Koran. Throughout the four ages, meat has been used.

ਜਜਿ ਕਾਜਿ ਵੀਆਹਿ ਸੁਹਾਵੈ ਓਥੈ ਮਾਸੁ ਸਮਾਣਾ ॥
Jaj kāj vī▫āhi suhāvai othai mās samāṇā.
It is featured in sacred feasts and marriage festivities; meat is used in them.

ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਪੁਰਖ ਨਿਪਜਹਿ ਮਾਸਹੁ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹ ਸੁਲਤਾਨਾਂ ॥
Isṯarī purakẖ nipjahi māsahu pāṯisāh sulṯānāʼn.
Women, men, kings and emperors originate from meat.

ਜੇ ਓਇ ਦਿਸਹਿ ਨਰਕਿ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਤਾਂ ਉਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਕਾ ਦਾਨੁ ਨ ਲੈਣਾ ॥
Je o▫e ḏisėh narak jāʼnḏe ṯāʼn unĥ kā ḏān na laiṇā.
If you see them going to hell, then do not accept charitable gifts from them.

ਦੇਂਦਾ ਨਰਕਿ ਸੁਰਗਿ ਲੈਦੇ ਦੇਖਹੁ ਏਹੁ ਧਿਙਾਣਾ ॥
Ḏeʼnḏā narak surag laiḏe ḏekẖhu ehu ḏẖińāṇā.
The giver goes to hell, while the receiver goes to heaven - look at this injustice.

ਆਪਿ ਨ ਬੂਝੈ ਲੋਕ ਬੁਝਾਏ ਪਾਂਡੇ ਖਰਾ ਸਿਆਣਾ ॥
Āp na būjẖai lok bujẖā▫e pāʼnde kẖarā si▫āṇā.
You do not understand your own self, but you preach to other people. O Pandit, you are very wise indeed.

ਪਾਂਡੇ ਤੂ ਜਾਣੈ ਹੀ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਿਥਹੁ ਮਾਸੁ ਉਪੰਨਾ ॥
Pāʼnde ṯū jāṇai hī nāhī kithhu mās upannā.
O Pandit, you do not know where meat originated.

ਤੋਇਅਹੁ ਅੰਨੁ ਕਮਾਦੁ ਕਪਾਹਾਂ ਤੋਇਅਹੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣੁ ਗੰਨਾ ॥
Ŧo▫i▫ahu ann kamāḏ kapāhāʼn ṯo▫i▫ahu ṯaribẖavaṇ gannā.
Corn, sugar cane and cotton are produced from water. The three worlds came from water.

ਤੋਆ ਆਖੈ ਹਉ ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਹਛਾ ਤੋਐ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਬਿਕਾਰਾ ॥
Ŧo▫ā ākẖai ha▫o baho biḏẖ hacẖẖā ṯoai bahuṯ bikārā.
Water says, "I am good in many ways." But water takes many forms.

ਏਤੇ ਰਸ ਛੋਡਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੰਨਿਆਸੀ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਕਹੈ ਵਿਚਾਰਾ ॥੨॥
Ėṯe ras cẖẖod hovai sani▫āsī Nānak kahai vicẖārā. ||2||
Forsaking these delicacies, one becomes a true Sannyaasee, a detached hermit. Nanak reflects and speaks. ||2||

Pauree:

ਹਉ ਕਿਆ ਆਖਾ ਇਕ ਜੀਭ ਤੇਰਾ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਕਿਨ ਹੀ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
Ha▫o ki▫ā ākẖā ik jībẖ ṯerā anṯ na kin hī pā▫i▫ā.
What can I say with only one tongue? I cannot find your limits.

ਸਚਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ਸੇ ਤੁਝ ਹੀ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥
Sacẖā sabaḏ vīcẖār se ṯujẖ hī māhi samā▫i▫ā.
Those who contemplate the True Word of the Shabad are absorbed into You, O Lord.

ਇਕਿ ਭਗਵਾ ਵੇਸੁ ਕਰਿ ਭਰਮਦੇ ਵਿਣੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
Ik bẖagvā ves kar bẖaramḏe viṇ saṯgur kinai na pā▫i▫ā.
Some wander around in saffron robes, but without the True Guru, no one finds the Lord.

ਦੇਸ ਦਿਸੰਤਰ ਭਵਿ ਥਕੇ ਤੁਧੁ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਆਪੁ ਲੁਕਾਇਆ ॥
Ḏes disanṯar bẖav thake ṯuḏẖ anḏar āp lukā▫i▫ā.
They wander in foreign lands and countries until they grow weary, but You hide Yourself within them.

ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਰਤੰਨੁ ਹੈ ਕਰਿ ਚਾਨਣੁ ਆਪਿ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ ॥
Gur kā sabaḏ raṯann hai kar cẖānaṇ āp ḏikẖā▫i▫ā.
The Word of the Guru's Shabad is a jewel, through which the Lord shines forth and reveals Himself.

ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥
Āpṇā āp pacẖẖāṇi▫ā gurmaṯī sacẖ samā▫i▫ā.
Realizing one's own self, following the Guru's Teachings, the mortal is absorbed into Truth.

ਆਵਾ ਗਉਣੁ ਬਜਾਰੀਆ ਬਾਜਾਰੁ ਜਿਨੀ ਰਚਾਇਆ ॥
Āvā ga▫oṇ bajārī▫ā bājār jinī racẖā▫i▫ā.
Coming and going, the tricksters and magicians put on their magic show.

ਇਕੁ ਥਿਰੁ ਸਚਾ ਸਾਲਾਹਣਾ ਜਿਨ ਮਨਿ ਸਚਾ ਭਾਇਆ ॥੨੫॥
Ik thir sacẖā salāhṇā jin man sacẖā bẖā▫i▫ā. ||25||
But those whose minds are pleased by the True Lord, praise the True One, the Ever-stable Lord. ||25||

Spirituality- I thought everybody writing anything on this forums knows about it. because "Sikh" literally means "learner", and I hope SGGS is not teaching us sword fight, or fashion sense for wearing orange ,blue,white dresses or community service. The sole purpose of Sikhi is to find the truth that is God. Anything else discussed or written there is merely to help achieving this task.

as per wikipedia:

Spirituality is a process of personal transformation, either in accordance with traditional religious ideals, or, increasingly, oriented on subjective experience and psychological growth independently of any specific religious context. In a more general sense, it may refer to almost any kind of meaningful activity or blissful experience. There is no single, widely-agreed definition for the concept.

I don't know why are you asking so much questions about the literal meaning of spirituality, when you know in heart what I meant from it. Why wasting your time and creating meaningless discussions?

Spiritual perspective simply means a viewpoint which expresses spirituality and spirituality is nothing more than one word out of many which defines a persons's inclination/progress/path towards God realization.

Another meaning: Spiritual word is related to spirit. In Punjabi ,will call it Aatmik.

ਫੜੁ ਕਰਿ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੋ ਦਿਖਲਾਵਹਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਨਹੀ ਸੂਝੈ ॥
Faṛ kar lokāʼn no ḏikẖlāvahi gi▫ān ḏẖi▫ān nahī sūjẖai.
They practice hypocrisy, and make a show before other people, but they do not understand anything about meditation or spiritual wisdom.

ਨਾਨਕ ਅੰਧੇ ਸਿਉ ਕਿਆ ਕਹੀਐ ਕਹੈ ਨ ਕਹਿਆ ਬੂਝੈ ॥
Nānak anḏẖe si▫o ki▫ā kahī▫ai kahai na kahi▫ā būjẖai.
O Nanak, what can be said to the blind people? They cannot answer, or even understand what is said.

ਅੰਧਾ ਸੋਇ ਜਿ ਅੰਧੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਸਿ ਲੋਚਨ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
Anḏẖā so▫e jė anḏẖ kamāvai ṯis riḏai sė locẖan nāhī.
They alone are blind, who act blindly. They have no eyes in their hearts.

ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਕੀ ਰਕਤੁ ਨਿਪੰਨੇ ਮਛੀ ਮਾਸੁ ਨ ਖਾਂਹੀ ॥
Māṯ piṯā kī rakaṯ nipanne macẖẖī mās na kẖāʼnhī.
They are produced from the blood of their mothers and fathers, but they do not eat fish or meat.

ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਪੁਰਖੈ ਜਾਂ ਨਿਸਿ ਮੇਲਾ ਓਥੈ ਮੰਧੁ ਕਮਾਹੀ ॥

Jī▫a janṯ sabẖ māsahu ho▫e jī▫e la▫i▫ā vāserā.
All beings and creatures are flesh; the soul has taken up its home in the flesh.

ਅਭਖੁ ਭਖਹਿ ਭਖੁ ਤਜਿ ਛੋਡਹਿ ਅੰਧੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਜਿਨ ਕੇਰਾ ॥

Meat is allowed in the Puraanas, meat is allowed in the Bible and the Koran. Throughout the four ages, meat has been used.

Jaj kāj vī▫āhi suhāvai othai mās samāṇā.
It is featured in sacred feasts and marriage festivities; meat is used in them.

ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਪੁਰਖ ਨਿਪਜਹਿ ਮਾਸਹੁ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹ ਸੁਲਤਾਨਾਂ ॥

Women, men, kings and emperors originate from meat.

Je o▫e ḏisėh narak jāʼnḏe ṯāʼn unĥ kā ḏān na laiṇā.
If you see them going to hell, then do not accept charitable gifts from them.

ਦੇਂਦਾ ਨਰਕਿ ਸੁਰਗਿ ਲੈਦੇ ਦੇਖਹੁ ਏਹੁ ਧਿਙਾਣਾ ॥
Ḏeʼnḏā narak surag laiḏe ḏekẖhu ehu ḏẖińāṇā.
The giver goes to hell, while the receiver goes to heaven - look at this injustice.

Corn, sugar cane and cotton are produced from water. The three worlds came from water.

Water says, "I am good in many ways." But water takes many forms.

Some wander around in saffron robes, but without the True Guru, no one finds the Lord.

ਦੇਸ ਦਿਸੰਤਰ ਭਵਿ ਥਕੇ ਤੁਧੁ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਆਪੁ ਲੁਕਾਇਆ ॥
Ḏes disanṯar bẖav thake ṯuḏẖ anḏar āp lukā▫i▫ā.
They wander in foreign lands and countries until they grow weary, but You hide Yourself within them.

ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਰਤੰਨੁ ਹੈ ਕਰਿ ਚਾਨਣੁ ਆਪਿ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ ॥

The Word of the Guru's Shabad is a jewel, through which the Lord shines forth and reveals Himself.

Sorry brother, Not agree with this. This discussion is not fruitless. Every action has a reaction. Don't you think this action of killing or not and what we eat has an effect on our Focus and Meditation.

Focus- You must know that chef's around the world are obsessed with adding vine to enhance flavors, I Assume that will definitely have some effect on our focus. See how merely a cup of coffee in the morning affect our attention.


Meditation: How could somebody sit on meditation when you had too much of fried food causing indigestion and acidity, making it hard for you to sit still.

Above were two examples of food causing problems on physical level. Think about the affects on mental level,spiritual level. Diet is important part of our life. That will definitely affect us.

I know there have been lots of discussions. But none come to any conclusions and ended being very long threads adding more to frustration of a seeker.
So a poll for straightforward answer. Please keep in mind to provide answer only and only from spiritual perspective.

Dear NALP

I'm going to rely on scientific evidence to help resolve the subject matter at hand, and then add my personal view to reflective on the spiritual need.

Accepting Charles Darwin "theory of evolution" [TOE] one can most certainly understand the nature of human beings. We are told that once upon a time we were apes who were/are very closesly related to the present day chimpanzees. And, over time we evolved so much so, that we, from being a mere leaf n fruit eating primates became hunter-gathers of flesh. The evolutionary evidenced advanced to support this view, inter alia, is our K9 teeth. Taking that evidence at face value, simply to move on spiritually, we can infer, okay, we are primates - what next ?

From a spiritual perspective the question for the human soul [atman] is one of morality, that is, right n wrong of taking a life ? Should non-humans be killed ? I think here, given our evolutionary past, one must rely upon rational analysis rather than a gut-ache response. For example, do non-humans have the ordinary consciousness ? If affirmative, then from a moralistic stance it'd be wrong to kill an animal for food when there is abundance of vegetation available [going back on our true nature, survival on vegetation and other natural resources].

Science tells us that non-humans do have "neurological substrates" [mechanicism which generates consciousness] conscious states and that they are aware of their environment and attune to it naturally. If that is so, then it is morally wrong to kill.

This is where Sikhism [system of belief] comes in, that is to say, one accepts all there is in this beautiful creation and doesn't argue with anyone, but for personal development reflects upon the "self within" [atman]. Guru Nanak places lot of emphasis on the betterment of the human condition in pauri 38 of Jap Ji Sahib. And, is further supported by Guru Amardas on page 344 SGGSJ in advising the human soul [spiritual] to look within itself to discover true food "Amrit" [Eternal food]. Bearing in mind to what I've said above, it follows then, one's clear conscience [Killing is immoral] is a necessity rather than a choice to connect permanently to Nanak's way of life.

OPINION

Eating meat, drinking alcohol, smoking of tobacco and drugs are socially and evolutionary induced habits or addictions and should not act as hinderence or deterrence from being a believer in God. If anything, humans should be encouraged to find meaning and purpose in life albeit non-Sikh to make society better and harmonious.

Guru Nanak's God - Ek On Kar is so powerful and beautiful that it does not discriminate between its creation and accepts all souls impartially to miraclesously change them to better [subjective] human beings. This occurs as the soul journeys on through trials and tribulations of her everyday dictates and then she begins to conform to her belief [in this case Sikhi] and value - by the grace of Waheguru.

In short, atman is time [body] bound and will slowly and surely free itself from the shackles of bodily pleasures and return to Waheguru.

At the end of the day, it boils down to choices and provided you could morally justify in eating meat then why stop. But in view of what I said above and given science is correct then morally it is wrong to take life for consumption as food.

I rest my case and don't really fancy night of the long-knives on this topic.

As for you NALP - draw your own conclusion, love n live - the Khalsa way, kirit kar, wand shak and nam jap.

I understand what you are saying about the physical effects on the body of diet. If someone eats a heavy lunch, they will feel sleepy and tired afterwards. Too much fried and fatty foods can lead to indigestion and heartburn. Too much sugar can lead to diabetes, etc. These are all common-sense things to watch for and to adjust your diet accordingly. For example, if you find that too many carbohydrates don't suit you, you will start avoiding or cutting down on white rice, bread, potatoes, etc.

However, that is where the consideration ends. If you are thinking that you will obtain some spiritual benefit from abstaining from meat (or wealth, or sex, etc.), then I think you're going down a different path that is not Sikhi.

Sikhi is not about becoming an ascetic or hermit and living up in the mountains like the yogi's. A Sikh is a householder and lives in the world, fulfilling his or her household and family duties, and while in the midst of all these, turning his or her attention to the Timeless Being.

I will go back to the shabad by Guru Nanak Sahib which I quoted before (which apparently you didn't read). For me, all discussions end with Guru Sahib. There is no further argument after Guru's Hukam. Guru says, the Sikh does. That's it. If you still wish to argue or debate, that is of course your choice. But as for me, what Guru Sahib has explained is good enough and that is what I will follow. What I took away and understood from the shabad is that it is pointless to argue about meat. Instead, we should be focusing Vaheguru and on spiritual wisdom. i.e. I infer that there is no spiritual wisdom to be gained from arguing over whether there is any benefit to eating meat or not. This is the very same discussion that you are propagating on this thread.

I hope you find your answers soon and can get started with your perfect conditions for meditation. I will say this, I really hope you start soon. The day of our lives is very very short, and darkness is closing in all around us. Soon there will be pitch darkness. Who will help you then? Please abandon your notions of "right conditions" for meditation, and just start, this instant, this moment, before your next breath, to connect with Vaheguru. Time is running short and we are so disconnected. All we need is the heart connection, the rest is all meaningless drivel.
