What Kind Of Medical Specialist Is Most Needed In India?

I still have this dream of becoming a doctor and moving to India, I don't know if I will ever do that but I like thinking about it. I know I want to be a doctor (and a Sikh scholar) no matter where I live, and I want to help those who have nobody else. I want to study internal medicine, but then I started to wonder what medical specialty is most needed among the poor in India. I've thought about becoming an internist specializing in both pediatrics and geriatrics, although I'm not sure how well that would work. Maybe I should specialize in whatever is most needed in India.
Are there any organizations that can help someone who wants to work as doctor treating the poor in India? I'm still a long way off from becoming a doctor, but I can't shake this dream of giving up a comfortable life to help others whether or not I go to India. The idea of making lots of money and having an easy life just doesn't satisfy me. I feel like dedicating my life to seva is my calling through medicine and Gurbani. I want to helpothers both physically and spiritually. There is really very little I need in life.

Sorry this isn't really a proper post (more of a ramble), but I'm really unsure how else to say this. If anyone can give any advice on how I can acheive my lifes goal it would be greatly appreciated.

Satyadhi ji

The government of India has an extremely good web site. Would you find the information you are looking for by searching under the Health Ministry? They must keep statistics to answer your question.

My other suggestion is to ask medical doctors who are from India -- here on the SPN forum, but also among your local doctors.

INDIA
Rural and small town India needs any kind of doctors who could treat them at nominal charges.

For further assistance you can contact Drkhalsa(jatinder singh ji) as he could properly guide you

get into med school and by the end of your sophomore year you will have a better and narrower picture of not only where your interests are but also where you think you can be most useful in the service of others. Note; These inclinations towards a particular specialty are subject to great changes with time. :p

demand for a particular medical professional should hardly be a concern in todays India, also remember that demands of a particular specialty change or vary with time.

do what you know you like.
best of luck

ahan a soldier eager to go into the battle field. what seems too easy is not always easy. most of the doctors are mean and poor people cannot afford being treated by them the govt of India is trying its best by employing doctors in rural areas and by organizing health camps same is being done by some Gurudwara organizations i guess they need such doctors to support them.well it doesn't matter if a soldier is in infantry or artillery one uses a gun and the other one a field gun but at last they serve their respective purposes.
