Whenever lawmakers, who are human, "grant freedoms" then religious freedom is no longer a freedom, but a gift. Whosoever gives you freedom as a gift can take it away. Whosoever doles out freedom will always do it according the the tune and the beat of those who vote. Whosoever wants to pamper his ego, by being able say "look" all these groups are in love with me, will grant freedom accordingly.

It is really painful that in our country the horse and *** are yoked. Legal principles to aid the weak has been gathering the dust. The poor chap with whom the injustice had been made firstly by the kidnapper secondly by our Honourable judges. Rather to provide justice to the girl-child of 15 years and her parents the judges have played with the sentiments of everybody. This is partiality made to the victim and family. The judges have given more consideration to the religion and set aside the judgement without considering the factor of benevolence of this impartial God.

The poor Girl-child should be compensated for the loss bore by her and the culprit would have been sentenced for the crime he has made.

Madam this was a very simple case. We see the judgements at Village level passed by the Sarpachs and Panchs even in Panchayat if we consider the crime then the culprit would have not been spared for the crime he has done.

Now I come to the title of my discussion. The Horse and *** yoked. Legal principles to aid in a World of Unequals. I wonder how the Laws are made. I hope this is made by the 90% illiterate parliamentarians those have nothing to do with justice but concentrate to enhance their perks and salary.

In our Vote politics it is rightly said that 100 asses are more powerful than 99 horses. This is vote politics. More than 70% educated class don't use the power of vote in elections in India.

So, how can we expect shelter from the law enforcement agencies.

Madam, compare life to a football match. Some footballers obtain a red card, some a yellow, some get injured or die on the pitch. Many fail to win any notable medal. Like the football match the justice had been made not considering the verdict of Almighty.

Go ahead, keep your mind alert, experience things and learn from it. I do not believe in following Gurbani word by word, I believe in understanding its spirit. Gurbani says lust is to be killed. But it would not be killed by repression. To dispell darkness one cannot expect to kill darkness. The darkness is to be replaced by light. Similarly sex will die of its own accord when mind rises above it owing to Grace, owing to spiritual practices and owing to good karmas. Its simple.
Who over here or anywhere for that matter can say that he did not have sex with his wife out of lust. Was there no lust at all when he had sex? That is a pure white lie. If that ever happened it must be a rarest of rare case.
Before marriage and after marriage lust is lust, so why make a discrimination? I suggest just be sincere and serious.
Rehatnama or code of conduct is a product of a time and conditions. Time changes and conditions change. What should not change is our alertness, our responsible behaviour, our sincerity towards ours and others life.

is this a joke? is what im hearing a absolute joke?? why are there people replying in this topic, encouraging pre-maritial sex? fact, in Sikhism, it is forbidden. Kaam is looked down upon, and not something that should be encouraged before marriage. So if you follow Sikhism, can i just make it clear that Guru Gobind Singh ji themselves stated that pre-martial sex is a sin, as well as adultery. Looking at another woman in a lustful way is not encouraged either. This response is late, and im hoping the boy who started this topic hasnt done something he will regret by listening to these other 'contributers'. peace.

So I guess the question is... is it more useful to this person for us to take the stigmatizing, finger-wagging, "Thou Shalt Not," judging-him-as-a-sinner approach? Or to take a more practical, nonjudgmental Dr. Ruth approach that simply addresses the reality of what it is like to be a teenage boy struggling with these issues.

I guess my thought is that, at last check, human nature balks at rules that seem to exist for their own sake rather than to serve a practical purpose of some sort.

Personally I think we give the sex act waaay too much emphasis and power when we start creating all kinds of rules and restrictions around it. It's like the chocolate truffle that the dieter is not allowed to eat -- but that other people eat all the time. Pretty soon it becomes all the dieter can think about. Does that make them a bad person? No. It just means they're all too human.

Take away all the arbitrary, rule-based, stigmatizing, punitive thinking around sex and it tends to put sex in a more proper perspective -- it is an appetite, much like what we have for food, and it is tied into our emotional needs as well. Honor that, and encourage people to embrace that more mature approach to marital sexual relations (rather than shaming them for wanting it before marriage), and people will likely be more inclined to listen than if they're being shamed for what is a natural human desire.

First of all since the post is dated (15-Dec-2007, 09:45 AM) the "passionate embrace" either happened or they broke up.

Overall the way I look at it the philosophical or may I say logical rules of life are,

This is how basic logic will fail if not followed and rules become useless.

Question1 : Should young people/teenagers control their Kaam?
Answer 1: No. How would they no the difference when they develop further in life.

Question 2: Should unmarried men treat all unmarried women as their sisters before they get married to one?
Answer 2: No. One who thought someone one time to be one's sister shall not call her later one's wife.

Question 3: Should unmarried men treat all unmarried men as their brothers before they partner/marry one?
Answer 3: No. One who thought someone one time to be one's brother shall not call him later his spouse.

To compare having pre-martial sex, to eating a chocolate (which sounds so casual) is ridiculous. Sexual desire has ended with the downfall of bhagats and saints, it is seen as a shallow pleasure that destroys even great sages. Guru Gobind Singh ji made the rules for a reason, to not even think about another woman in dream. Those writings were there for a reason. It should not be ignored in ego or ignorance.

Christianity is much older then Sikhism, considering Sikhism is a relatively 'young religion' its embarassing how downwards the 'modern day sikhs' are going. It must also be clarified that we are Sikhs not Christians, christianity is related to islam, and going to heaven is there goal via conversions etc etc. Our goal (no offence to other religions) is to reach Waheguru, sach khand, a place above swarag (heaven) and above all other things, what the buddhists call Nirvana.

These modern day 'Sikhs', in kalyug will look for any excuse to have a sexual relationship, we have all been through those stages, so being afraid of 'psychologically damaging them' should be the least of your worries but instead telling them the truth, and quoting from Gurbani would be the right way to deal with such a question. Since it is clear that, he asked for what Sikhism says about sex before marriage, not what people say. Be careful what you say to the youth, as other youngsters reading this topic can be steered the wrong way, this was what i was feeling when i was reading through these posts, that sex before marriage is acceptable in Sikhism, and the Guru's allow it?? i dont think so. Thats all i wanted to say, forgive me for any misconceptions.

But you would see Christians and Muslims indulging in premarital sex around you. In principle, no religion permits premarital sex, nor does any school of moral and social learning. The question you are dealing with is not a unique one, almost everyone of us faces this kind of doubts or questions at some point of life or the other.
The answer to this cannot be, and should not be a plain 'Yes' or 'No'. Just consider, hasn't the institution of marriage and family broken down in countries where premarital sex is widely prevalent? The people in these countries are trapped by very serious Social and psychological problems and are leading a highly artificial and make-believe type of life. Gurbani encourages the institution of family and marriage and the same can be done only by discouraging premarital and extramarital sexual relations. If you are in relationship with a girl whom you like and care about, the first thing you should do is talk with her. If she sincerely loves you she wont desert you just if you refuse sex before marriage. You will realize in the long run that a life of love and understanding is certainly better and rewarding than a life of sexual lust and deceit.
You are certainly not a sinner if you love a girl and want to marry her, you are a normal human. But you should evaluate what you want from life , short-term sexual pleasure or love and a satisfying sexual life. Certainly I recommend the latter, but as a human, you have a free will and all I and Sikhism can do is to direct you towards the right path. The rest is your decision!

Tell me, can you imagine any guru committing this act in your mind. About 10 -12 years ago Sikhs said that you couldn’t have sex, you couldn’t eat meat or cut your hair. But somewhere all of a sudden Sikhs said that you could have sex after sikhi marriage, you couldn’t eat meat or cut your hair. Now something’s wrong here.
Tell me, if sex is allowed then why did all of a sudden god create aids (the disease) and still people don’t learn. They gamble with life plus sometimes disfigured children are born.
I believe you don’t need to be married to be with someone because god is everywhere he knows how much you are committed to each other already, so therefore a couple are married already. (In theory marriage is in your head without physically celebrating it). People only get married so that other people out there can witness how committed to each other you really are. For example when people make friends they don’t need know special celebration or ritual to become a friend it just happens because god is in them and the other one so they how much they are bonded to each other already.
Just imagine if there was a war and everything got wiped-out and obliterated by a nuclear bomb, and there were no temples or Holy Scriptures to read, and there was only one person and a coloured person that survived the fallout. Tell me, who’s to say now that they can’t get married, and if they did which temple would they go to, where there is none. I believe god is hassle free!!! (For example, one doesn’t need a turban to pray because if such a person was poor and it was impossible to get a turban how would they pray). The bani comes from within.
But in all marriage is only a choice. Not all, but a lot of woman won’t understand this because they can’t live by themselves so they tactically use religion and together with lust to say that it is right. Gurbani says human life is rare, precious and the opportunity to realize the Creative Force.
Virgin births are not scientifically possible.
To denounce sex is to say the Creator got it wrong as sex is the mode of our reproduction.
Sikh Gurus never told Sikhs to renounce family life, they encouraged it, and the aim is to be the lotus in the mud pool, to keep your awareness of Waheguru while living as part of creation in a most moral and upright way.

But in all marriage is only a choice. Not all, but a lot of woman won’t understand this because they can’t live by themselves so they tactically use religion and together with lust to say that it is right. This is because it is the greed of having family. God gave you life why do you want to worry over another. Women can and do live by themselves, however the family unit is most appropriate for raising children. You need to reas Asa Di Var. Men need women, too.

I think you have missed the point here my friend, sikhism shows us the way to the creator by living as married men and women, loving each other, and yes, having sex and, dare I say it, aloo prontha.

Seriously though, your statement worries me, it is possibly the most anti sikh post I have ever read, and the worrying thing is you are posting this in the name of sikhi.

None of the statements you seem to hold dear are in tandem with what I believe sikhism stands for, in fact they appear to be the opposite, naturally this is some sort of joke?, uhm hang on, ok, reading it again, ok, yes, its a satire, ah right, good, well done, do another on the subject of rituals and deities, or uhmm , why we should all stay in our own caste, the benefits of following a baba, the world is your oyster! but anyway, great post!

There is a basic guideline..Read everything as a whole...and moderation is the key to desires created by senses.What is sex..and how do we differentiate it with taste of Tongue..
There is a 'tuk' in Gurbani about these two things..
However,on a wider scale all that is through senses is to be moderated through considered and concerted or conscious efforts..

Sikhism has not said anything against that can be called as natural Sex ...or sex that is generally allowed and permitted by society understood in natural and ordinary way.

But we do have the right to interpret things the way we like as we have been blessed with the Understanding that HE has bestowed us with.

I am not a better sikh than you ,and vice-versa, if I do not indulge in sex..

There is a concept of 'Brahamacharya' in hinduism only not in sikhism.

If it is aloud then why didn't they write how to have safe sex. for example such as condoms. Not only that a disease has come about such as aids - why didn't the bani foretell this? Is it possible that someone could have misinterpreted the message? To be safe it is just best to follow gods path rather than men or forms of gurus because it’s possible that people could misinterpret the message. For example the first guru mentioned that he followed only god's path and no one else such as Hindu gods like Shiva. Not only that a lot of gurus rejected rituals because they choose to follow truth but not a symbol of religion. Tell me, would people then argue to them saying you should be taking this ritual because so and so is mentioned in the scriptures? I have learnt that when you die there is no religion and the 5 sikh symbolizes will not follow, even when your born because you are not born with a turban you are freely to choose which religion you want to follow. Religion is only a guide to god. Those who attach themselves to religion to much with pride will be born back into that religion. People should follow god more than religion.

You can’t judge Christianity with Sikh because they have been misinterpreted as well. This is because in their old scripture it says that Jesus created a wine purely from grape juice without no alcohol plus the kiss was supposed to be his breath of Religious secrets not what people see it as today as lip to lip.
I think that is a poor excuse for one to say that two souls unite when they have sex after marriage it only damages them and their health. They are still two souls no matter what or even when they are having sex. They only lose their nutrients. You are still two souls even if your touching someone else and proof is even if one person is dead and your touching them you can’t save them by absorbing their soul or let’s say unite with them. They always separate. Someone can only be one with god and that’s once they have achieved it.
What is so right with sex after marriage or all in any case the person only looses the nutrients in his sperm which god gave him to make him look good (that is the stuff that makes you look good and in that case you could consider it holy). Just like the liver is supposed to regenerate a person making their face look vibrant or good looking but then people ruin that as well by drinking and then on top of that it does not make sense when people say they want to look good.

I don't want to say much except that we are quite different in our thinking. I use my mind but I don't shun from other people's inputs.

You cannot be any further from Sikhism core if your understanding of Sikhism equips you to say the following,

You are basically lying to yourself for some purpose about Sikhism but it is none of my business to ask why.
