New campaign raises awareness about child sexual abuse

CALGARY- A campaign has been launched to address the sexual abuse of children in Calgary’s Indo-Canadian community.
The Canadian Sikh Network joined forces with Calgary Communities Against Sexual Abuse, to raise awareness about the issue.
They’re also researching best practices specific to the community, and one of their first initiatives will be a poster campaign in Punjabi.
“The program focuses on prevention and awareness, taking a message to a new community,” explains Human Services Minister Manmeet Bhullar. “In addition to that, providing some support services through a gateway, through a language that people understand.”
The province is supporting the program with a $100,000 grant.
