AMRITSAR: Giving a twist to the memorial controversy, former Golden Temple Granthi Giani Jagtar Singh Jachak said that Sikhism didn't allow erecting Gurdwara's as personal memorial. He said the Gurdwara's were the house of Guru's which serves as place of worship.
According to Rehat Maryada (Sikh code of conduct) neither any idol cold be installed nor a photograph could be hanged in presence of Sri Guru Granth Sahib .
International Sikh preacher Jachak was reacting on a question on the memorial to Operaton Bluestar being erected in form of a Gurdwara near Akal Takht- Sikh's supreme temporal seat in Golden Temple complex.
Shiromani Gurdwara Parabandhak Committee has entrusted the k{censored}wa of memorial to Damdami Taksal, Sikh's prominent seminary. He maintained that none of the Sikh's ten Guru's erected any Gurdwara in memory of a particular persoon. "As memorials Guru's had got the well's and sarovars dug wherever everyone irrespective of caste and creed could come" he said.
He said if a Gurdwara was constructed in memory of a particular person then he was eulogized there m ore than worship of Guru's . He said this was the reason that a section of Sikhs had preferred setting up of a museum type memorial where the photographs of people could be displayed which was not possible in a Gurdwara.
