Dlavinder Singh Ji,

Thanks for interaction, though views were different, yet there was interaction to learn and evolve.

All informations were important. With closed mind on Sakhis and other authors, got a view from your efforts of study..

Time in Guru Nanak's period was not divided in hours; it was divided in pahar. A day had 8 pahars , 24 hours divided into 8 pahars of 3 hours each starting from midnight. Pehar 1- is 1-3 AM. Pehar 2, 4-6 AM and the like. Bhalke, Parbhati, Amrit vela, Jhalage, Subah generally related to the period three hours from sunrise.

Sat Sri Akaal,

ਝਾਲਾਘੇ ਉਠਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਿ ਨਿਸਿ ਬਾਸੁਰ ਆਰਾਧਿ ॥

ਝਾਲਾਘੇ ਝਾਲਾ ਤੋਂ ਅਗ੍ਰ. ਰੌਸ਼ਨੀ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ. Before Sun Rise Word has a clear meaning.

ਉਠਿ Wake Up

ਨਾਮੁ Word Form of Gurus Bani

ਜਪਿ Learn

ਨਿਸਿ Night

ਬਾਸੁਰ Day

ਆਰਾਧਿ Remember

learn a verse or step before sun rise and remember day and night. Remembrance 24 Hrs Aath Pehar for all time eight pehar. Not to forget.

Wake Up
ਇਸਨਾਨੁ Body Cleaning as a Metaphor it is said to be cleaning of thought cleansing
ਕਰਹੁ Do it
ਪਰਭਾਤੇ Early Morning
ਸੋਏ And while going to sleep
ਹਰਿ Connect with Evergreen Evelasting Truth
ਆਰਾਧੇ Remembrance.

There is concept of time in these verses, and early morning wake up is never denied.

pahilaa pahar DhanDhai ga-i-aa doojai bhar so-i-aa. It does not relate time with 24 Hrs but a broad time scale of age.

aath pahar parabh Dhi-aa-ay tooN gun go-ind nit gaa-o. ||1|| rahaa-o Used for complete 24 hours

jee-a jant sabh jin kee-ay aath pahar tis jaap Used for 24 Hrs

Further concept of Pahar,

As a clear reference read and understand

doojaa pahar bha-i-aa jaag achaytee raam.

teejaa pahar bha-i-aa need vi-aapee raam. (1110-8, quKwrI, mÚ 1)

cha-uthaa pahar bha-i-aa da-ut bihaagai raam. (1110-10, quKwrI, mÚ 1)

So fourth pehar is end of Day or is Fourth Stage of Life. ie End of Productive Stage
Will it be a right statement ???

12 noon is the last time when you can learn else time is up now learning is impossible.

Or if one Learns at 60 what good one can do for self and others. As the youth stage has gone.

It is crafted meaning of Pahar without having rational behind learning.

But if 99 percent reads it from same translations than we are in a fix of translators understanding and not for TRUTH behind WORDS.

Further make analysis of PAHAR also from verses.

But again

Amrit Vayla,

and

Early Morning Wake Up shall not be mixed,

are different concepts.

as per my understanding and reference from Text.

There can be difference of opinion and thought.

Sat Sri Akaal,

If we make the use of pahar as unit of time we say noon as Dopahar Means, it is 2nd phase of morning time.1st phase is on sunrise. And 1st phase of night is at sunset.

This is old wisdom yet in vogue.

Again concept of time is mixed with english and hindi versions of time. It seems the concepts have come from political dominated thoughts and not through a rational and practical analysis.

If one takes Hindi concept pahar is unit of time
And start point ie 1st pahar is sun rise. And dopahar is a common word yet in practice.

But Gurus have used words to as a reference words to explain, but essence is important than translation, which needs a logical and analysis model rather than word translation.

Sat Sri Akaal,

So that means Sikhs have there own concept which is different from old belief system.

For Sikh Do Pahar will be 3am to 6 am.

And it is in practice by many of Sikhs and Institutions.

This concept belongs to Gurmat or Manmat.
One can vote for options.

Sat Sri Akaal,

Like to request Dalvinder Singh Ji to conclude the topic on Time Refrences of SGGS. Being elder and wise, we will get a right direction to bring the concept in practice.

Discussion without conclusion is confusion and chaos.

Focus of Shabad is One Point and can not be TWO which is Mool or Origin of Learning.

So conclusions are important, presented are opinions and thoughts on topic.

Request to weigh the opinion and conclude.

Why do you believe in minor technicalities? 'Pad pad gadi ladiaih' gives nothing. It will be better to get connected to Him early in the morning rather than getting into fruitless discussion where one is fixed on his own point of view. I always enjoy Amrits Vela as the time between 3-6 AM to meditate; you may not be happy to get up so early as appears from your explanations; so why discuss. It is better to be practical.
