Meeting of Jathedars: SGPC approval must to form Sikh organizations; No decision on Nanakshahi Calendar, Patna Sahib Clash

By Parmjit Singh

http://www.sikhsiyasat.net/2014/02/...ion-on-nanakshahi-calendar-patna-sahib-clash/

It is learnt that five Singh Sahibs: Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh, Takht Kesgarh Sahib Jathedar Giani Mal Singh, Takht Damdama Sahib Jathedar Gaini Balwant Singh Nandgarh, Head Granthi of Darbar Sahib Gaini Jagtar Singh and Granthi Giani Maan Singh held a meeting at Amritsar today.

The meeting reportedly observed that too many Sikh groups or organizations were being floated for vested interests, and it decided to impose restriction on forming any Sikh organizations without the approval of Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC).

A view of 6 February, 2014 meeting.

According to certain media reports, while informing about the decision Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh said: “We’ll recognise religious groups only if the SGPC approved them and the Akal Takht also agreed. Only then will they qualify for assistance from the two authorities.”

He said that the decision was based on complaints received by them in this regard.

According to Ajit newspaper: Jathedars declared that it was necessary for any Sikh organization to present it’s aims/ objectives along the full details of it’s members to the SGPC in order to get approval for floating such organization.

On the other hand, Jathedars did not discuss the Nanakshahi Calendar issue. Giani Gurbachan Singh reportedly stated, in a media interaction after the meeting, that they ‘did not touch the topic’.

According to Hindustan Times (HT) there was also no discussion on the 7 January Gurpurb clash at Takht Patna Sahib.

“We received the CD (compact disc) containing a video of the clash only a few minutes ago. We’ll view it first,” the jathedar said in reply to a query.

Draconian control at its worst. If any democratic country made a similar law there would be a revolution, but the Sikh nation stays quiet and meekly trusts its leadership. :(

Yes and No AngloSikhPeace ji. This may be the cover story. There is a kernel of truth in the numbers of factions within factions that form and then agitate in Punjab. Even AISSF has split into factions with the original PeerMohamed group and its rival.

However, the timing of this is eerie. The announcement comes roughly at the same time as major organizations in the Diaspora are protesting the inaction of AT and SGPC on several critical issues and continued changes in the Nanakshahi calendar without panthic participation.

Has the World Sikh Council Canada or American Region ever been recognized by SGPC? What about the ASGPC (hope I have the initials correct, will check)? If they have never been recognized, then the weight of the diaspora on many questions can simply be ignored and the input of scores of sangats can be dismissed. I would like some clarification on this because millions are remitted from diaspora golak to Amritsar.

Whatever, apart from taking draconian control, they need to set an example by self practice.First and formost they -SGPC -need to "disarm" the various fringe factions that proclaim their maryada to be original and insist on such false maryadas of fringe groups.

WE have over a dozen fanatical and unreasonably self proclaimed gripus claiming guardianship of the maryada!

The dum dummies claim their is original-considering their own claime dhistory is full of ratty holes and gaps- plugged falsely to associate with baba Deep Singh!

Then we have the nanaksarias who claim they have the original maryada-when in fcat they only emerged after the death of the nanaksar founder sant sadh in 1943!

In addition to all these fake groups who are not out to promote sikhsi of the Gurus but that of their sadhs, we have many more single man, half a dozen persons units that galore! Each with it own "maryada".

In all honesty and reality-the OLDEST maryada and most original is the SRM!THis was taken directly from the rehtanamas and janamsakshi and gurbani!

Non of the others have origins in such historical documents..., except where they have copied, when it convinienced them.

These are the organisations that need to be banned first and operate only as the Sikh groups of the Panth!

As to implementing the draconian mesures, how do they propose to do it?AS they cannot even implement it within the Punjab itself?

These are all actiosn to appease the Sikhs abroad and divert their attention from the internal misappropriation and misuse of funds and politics of the SGPC.

This is a ruse..to SILENCE the Diaspora SIKHS....see this link below as to how even GOVERNMENTS seek to stifle dissenting voices via DEREGISTRATION ( if already registered)..or simply NON-RECOGNITION..IGNORE etc...

This Link is about a Malaysian Grouping of like minded NGOs that are disliked by many that walk the corridors of power..hence the group was banned..etc etc...Banning works to silence with just one stroke of the mighty pen !! Clever

Sikh Rehat Maryada is a subject on which Sikh Central body has the final say.
Around the year 1939 suggestions were called from Sikhs living around the world by Khalsa Diwan, Sri Amritsar, and after much deliberations (at long last, in 1945) it was decided upon the "Sikh Rehat Maryada" that is available in print from SGPC. This is the only authentic SRM for all the Sikhs by which we have to abide.
If any body or any association/institution claims he/it has in his possession some authentic material that throws light on something different then he/it should come forward and place it before SGPC for consideration.
Till then all claims by different persons, associations/institutions stand null and void and the SRM in print approved by SGPC is the only authentic SRM.

There is ONLY ONE central SIKH BODY-SGPC-THERE IS NONE OTHER.
So the suggestion".....on which Sikh Central body has the final say...."leads to a misconception!

The Sikh Gurduara Board was sat up in 1925, and shortly after this the name was changed to Shiromani Gurduara parbandhak Committee. The entire process of the SRM formation lasted almost 18 years. The calls and process for teh SRM started in 1926, and was formalised the next year.

[The date given as 1939 is inaccurate]

On March,15th 1927,The General body of the SGPC appointed a 29 member sub committee -rahurit committee- through the Jathedar of the Akal Takhat -Bhai Teja Singh -to explore, research and identify Sikh teachings, traditions, history and pratise and prepare code of the Sikh Conduct and Coventions-Sikh rehat Maryada.

Four years later, in 1931, a preliminary was distributed to all Sikhs and opinions called for from all the SIKH COMMUNITIES scattered through out the world at that time.

The rahurit committee met many times more, in October 1931, on 3rd January 1932;31st January 1932;May 1932 and September 1932.

On December 1933, a conclave of wide spectrum of Sikhs and opinions were solicited from world wide, met , where 170 representatives attended.

Another 50 members committee was formed with intellectual representatives from California, Malaya, Burma; Afghanistan; East AFRICA AND Fiji INCLUDED ALONG WITH FROM PUNJAB AND INDIA.

Further 21 correspondents from around the world unable to attend sent in their views. This group then approved a draft copy of SRM

In 1936, this was ratified twice, and implemented, while views continued to be sought and continued to pour in.

An 8 member committee met in January, 1945 to consider the suggestions and ractify any short commings and the General House of the SGPC passed the final draft on 3rd february 1945.

The fringe groups -like nanaksaria and dum dummies have no grounds to over turn this decision of the Panthic body. This is the genuine and truly origin Sikh Rehat maryada.

There is no material, nor any new facts, that can effect the Panthi parvanit maryada.

Nanaksaria history only goes back as far as with the death Nand Singh in 1943, when the tath was sat up, by status crazy sadhs.

Dum Dummies-who really originated from jatha bhindra mehta chowk-- go back to only Kartar Singh, and their origins do not relate to the DAMDAMA Sahib or Baba Deep Singh as they falsely claim. In 1972, Kartar singh started refering to his jatha as dum dummie taksaal and built up a false history around it.Their high point came with JarnaiL Singh, since then they have tried to to claim all sorts of stupidity, as well as sneaking into the Harmander sahib complex through the excuse of the memorial to the shahids of 1984.They have been in denial of the Shahidi of Jarnail Singh Bhindrawala for nearly 25 years!

Only the SGPC is the Panthic body, and with it we have to stand despite many short commings of performance effectively- which should be addressed separately.

It is illogical to say "which Sikh Central Body" when we are on the topic of religion. There is only one Sikh Central body in respect to Sikh (inter alia) Religious matters and that is the (so-called Mini Sikh Parliament) SGPC.

I have not delved in giving irrelevant dates in the matter and therefore gave only two dates that were crucial in the matter.
For details (only brief) here you go:-
The SGPC was formed in 1925. A 29 Member sub-committee for preparing a Draft on Sikh conduct and conventions was formed in1927 on issues related to Sikh Rehat Maryada to give a uniformity in customs, practices and on Religious aspects that we hold dear.
Of the 29 elected Members of the Sub-Committee only 13 could attend on 4th.and 5th. October 1931, 3rd. January 1932 and on 31st January 1932 held at Akal Thakt Sahib. In one of these meetings 4 Members were dropped and 8 New members were added. And after deliberations a Draft was prepared and submitted to SGPC.
On 8th. May 1932 the said Draft was once again deliberated upon at he behest of SGPC where only about 10 Members could assemble. Agreement remained elusive.
On 26th.September 1932 the Draft was once again put under consideration of the Sub-Committee at the request of several gentlemen where only 8 Members were present.
On 1st. October 1932 a final Draft was submitted to SGPC.
Thereafter SGPC circulated the Draft to various prominent individuals and Panthic Associations throughout the un-divided India and to Sikhs/Panthic Associations abroad.
On 1st August 1936 The All India Sikh Mission Board accorded its acceptance vide its Resolution No.1 of 1936 and forwarded it to SGPC.
On12th. October 1936 SGPC accepted the Draft and was widely circulated.
In 1939 approvals in toto or with qualifications suggesting for certain necessary amendments were received by SGPC. From Burma Two Opinion letters were sent to SGPC, one from Sikhs living in Namtu who were employees of Bawdwin Mines , through the Maymyo Gurdwara Management Committee and the other from a Sikh Youth Organization, Taungyi, Myanmar.
Probably because of the Second World War the final decision in the matter was put in cold storage and it was only 7th. January 1945 the Draft was considered once again and sent to 8 Member Sub-Committee for certain additions to and deletions from it.
The 3rd. February 1945 was the day the Draft submitted by the Sub-Committee on Code of Conduct and Conventions was accepted by SGPC vide its Resolution No.97 at a meeting held on 3rd. February 1945.

For a Sikh "Sikh Central body" is decidedly the SGPC as we are on the matter of Sikh Religion. Let there be no misconception. Why repeat the same again and again?
I have given the dates in its sequence and where the date tallying you call it "Repeating". If I had omitted you would have said some crucial dates are missing.
From Burma the opinions were sent by both the Institutions in 1939. It doesn't matter if you find it not agreeable.
The matter stands closed for me.

Oh so 1939--ONLY views were sent from Burma??What happened to the views sent from Fiji in 1935?or from the Sikhs in Malaya in 1930?or Singapore in 1929 and Shanghai in 1931??No the SZRM history did nbot start from those years.

In other words each year the views were sent ...means your history over the SRM starts again in that year??Interesting concept of history!!!But as the matter stand closed for you.

I will repeat factual history--the idea for SRM was mooted in 1925, a meeting to form was held in 1926 and then the proper formation process began in 1927.. ....views were sort from all over the world.....in between those years until 1945/46.

SRM history does NOT begin from 1937 or 1939---views from Afghanistan came in almost every year....does not mean the SRM began each year!

Oh by the way...cutting and chopping previous entries may help...but a record is there always.palaingtha says .."
..Sikh Rehat Maryada is a subject on which Sikh Central body has the final say.
Around the year 1939 suggestions were called from Sikhs living around the world by Khalsa Diwan, Sri Amritsar, and after much deliberations...does nOT at all mention you meant 1929 is related to ONLY Burma...

hello..
