The videos above were forwarded by respected forum member Tejwant Singh Malik.

I would like to make a suggestion. We should watch Jathedar Tarlochan Singh and Jathedar Iqbal Singh very closely in the media in the coming 2 weeks. Their actions and reactions in relation to the controversy surrounding Professor Darshan Singh will be critical.

Jathedar Tarlochan Singh was an appointment of former Jathedar Vedanti, and seemingly at least, they were close associates on several fronts.

Jathdar Vedanti resigned under pressure/was sacked for speaking in favor of Khalistan when he visited in the US a few months back (that is one of the reasons given). Note: the official and panthic reason for his sacking is "dividing the panth" over Khalistan. However, Khalistan pro or con is not a legitimate topic for either a hukamnama or a gurmatta or any other kind of panthic discipline. Fact is he was removed on orders of BADAL. Khalistan is not good for Badal.

Jatehdar Vedanti was succeeded by the current Jathedar Gurcharanjit Singh.

Jathedar Iqbal Singh is a sworn enemy of former Jathedar Vedanti.

There is a nexus in this mix, a connection, a tangled ball of twine, that has consequences for Professor Darshan Singh. Why? Well, Mr. Lamba, mastermind behind the sandesh against Professor Darshan Singh, also has an excellent working relationship with the present Jathedar of Akal Takht Gurcharanjit Singh. He did not have such a good working relationship with his predecessor Jathedar Vedanti. Does this sound like politics? Yes -- because that is what it is. Keep your eye on two people, Jathedars Iqbal Singh and Tarlochan Singh

As per newspaper reports in India Vedanti was sacked because he praised Manmohan Singh as "Good Prime Minister and also a good Sikh". His speaking in favour of Khalistan was not publicised in India

Yesterday on the occasion of observation of cremation of Guru Tegh Bahadur ji by Lakhi Shah Vanjara at Rakabgunj, Paramjit Singh Sarna president of DSGMC said that no Prachark, Kathavachak or Lecturer will be allowed to discuss pros and cons of Dasam Granth from the platform of DSGMC for the present.

He said that DSGMC will press for setting up a committee of respected intellectuals by Akal Takht (As promised, but not yet set up) to examine it in its entirety and come out with its recommendations. This should be on the lines of the committee which was set up, to come up with SRM in 1933.

Until then he requested Sikhs not fan the controversy by constant bickereing.

But the question is are there any such intellectuals left who have an open mind on the issue?

Thanks for the information. Well that helps the argument along even more because BADAL does not see eye to eye with that claim either. In fact it had to be political poison for him to hear it.

Punjabionline.com reports this,

"The reliable sources said that Chief minister Parkash Singh Badal had himself told Vedanti telephonically to step down otherwise he would be sacked in the executive meeting of SGPC to be held today at Kurukeshtra.

Vedanti who had always stood by his political masters has in the recent past changed his tune and started showing signs of resistance on vital issues. Even his stand against Gurmit Ram Rahim Singh head of dera Sacha Sauda had hardened. "

PunjabNewsline.com - Akal Takht Jathedar Joginder Singh Vedanti resigns

But the thaiindian.com did report the pro-Khalistan comment
"Sources informed that in recent times Vedanti’’s statements had caused embarrassment to the Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) group. A pro-Khalistan uttering during a visit to the USA, Vedanti’’s absence from India when two Sikhs were killed in clashes with Dera Saucha Sauda followers and his praise of PrimeMinister Manmohan Singh during the confidence vote on July 21 and 22, reportedly led to differences between him and Badal."

All I can say is WoW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for pointing that out!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I take your question very seriously. :wah::wah::wah::wah::wah:

A committee was supposed to be set up to resolve these issues nearly 3 years ago. Based on the events of these past 3 years, our knowledge of the infighting and petty rivalries among jathedars, and Badal's program of systematic cleansing of the Takhts and the SGPC, how can we trust a committee? Will its members not be at least subject to approval by Lamba?

Any comittee set up in the present Jathedar set up of SGPC/Akal Takkhat etc will be Lamba comittee...
OTHERWISE WHY would Akal Tkahta/SGPC even give the tiem of the day to the Sant Samaaj types who DONT RECOGNISE SRM of SGPC/AT...BUT demand changes in nankshai Calendar ?? WHat Locus standi they Have ?? The asnwer is clear..they are demanding the calendar eb scrapped...their dg stand be recognised and made mandatory for all sikhs..and thus RSS stamp on AT be made properly and legal.

Sardar (not Jathedar) Tarlochan Singh, Rajya Sabha MP also spoke at Gurudwara Rakab Ganj yesterday and said that, he had taken up with the Government to recognise Nanakshahi calender as it earlier had an approval of Akal Takht. Now with what face could he approach the government once more to make changes or drop the proposal altogether? He would be making a mockery not only of himself but the entire Sikh Community!

THAT is the answer Harbans Ji....NO FACE.
Why destroy the AT..first just the building..then the Institution...by making the puppets make ridiculous judgements, excommunications, about turns, etc etc so the Institution becomes a FARCE...sack and appoint jathedars like discarding an old smelly pair of socks....make them the laughing stock...and so our Kaum becomes a laughing stock..our Guru is challenged..physically by ram rahims and nirankarees, radha soamis sants babas..and challenged spiritually by shreek kavitas forcibly placed under "gurbani" tag...having controversial kavitas under gurus name.....challenging kakaars, challenging our History everything sikh is under threat...so that no SIKH can have a FACE !! THAT is what the nanakshahi , dg bachittra natak etc etc are all about..to leave Sikhs with NO FACE..shameless and dejected..BUT it wont work..becasue the Sikhs are AWAKE..and will not fall for this nonsense...Lambas or no Lambas...Just see the STORM that is sweeping the USA and Canada ref this Lamba trickery....Rabinder Bhamra...another brahminised writer has also got the heat because he collaborated with Lamba and showed his true colours..he writes pro-Bippar lekhs on Sikh Forums supporting karmas, reincarnations, souls and rebirths etc etc..and can also be implicated in this latest distort CDS of Kirtan..then distorting Gurbani is second play..

I have this feeling that Badals have bitten more than they can chew this time . The RSS ( BJP ) is at its weakest ever . The Nanakshahi calender issue alongwith Darshan Singh ( ragi ) issue will remain in people's mind for long long time alongwith Dera Sacha Sauda ( being let off ) & not acting during Ramanand ( Vienna ) anti-Sikh riots in Punjab will perhaps be the WATERLOO of Badals added to Electricity Crisis in the state with over 10 hours cuts daily in all cities of Punjab . In coming SGPC elections , a lot of people are looking for change .

A wild guess --they could be counting on the possibility that most of the electorate is not paying any attention to the calendar/Professor Darshan controversies. And that the voting public doesn't care much about it either. They make be playing that card in the hopes that anti-Congress sentiments will run high and maters of the panth will seem like boring, academic issues.

I have already been told by the editor of one Indian newspaper, World Sikh News, to whom I sent a letter, that this issue is nothing more than an insiders' squabble and that I should get a life. He might be right -- of course I don't think so. The slogan of the paper is So the Truth Can be Told. But his point may be that the workings of the Akal Takht are obviously political so why should he get overly concerned.

If anyone wants a copy of his response I will be glad to provide it. It was kind of shocking to say the least.

Narayanjot ji,

He is right per se. The common Sikh in India is not too bothered about what Akal Takht does these days since it has lost its sanctity. Moreover they are also not overtly concerned with Prof Darshan Singh as they feel that he has made his bucks. Neither are they bothered much about Nanakshahi as long as all the Gurupurabs are duly celebrated or observed.

But they are deeply concerned with the aspect connected with Darshan Singh that is DG. They feel that the future of Sikhi hinges on how delicately and sensibly this is handled. But going by the past botched up record of both SGPC and Akal Takht, they do not see much hope and only see another traumatic period in front of Sikhs. Having barely got over the past, they do not wish to land up in another totally avoidable mess. That is the reason the younger lot are becomming cynical and are not interested much in these mix ups.

Another difference between the Sikh diaspora and the desis is that Sikhs settled abroad are not engaged in thse topics by non Sikhs at work places and in schools or universities. But here in India, colleagues, classmates neighbours and even a person on road want to discuss these things critically and in detail. This does entail considerable embarrasment for the Sikhs. Their concern is that will this again lead to another conflaguration? There was consderable anxiety during Dera and Ravidasa controversies.

So the general response of Sikhs in India is just to shrug their shoulders.

Let' see what happens if we leave it here. No apologies are needed. :) A different type of discussion might emerge.

HAHAHAHAHA!!! The biggest problem with that video is that the guy asking the questions sound illiterate. He himself is asking questions based off of cd's he has heard and videos he has seen. Second point = this proves that we need to educate people about the dasam granth. Half the people just know what they know based off of videos and cd's that are obviously biased. The Akal Takhat needs to make a committee of 5-10 people who will analyze the text and summarize per se. I personally find it to be a collection of stories and common human problems that Guru Ji has assessed as well as a few other things. The truth is that this has become such a big issue when Darshan Singh and all these others who now oppose it were praising the Dasam Granth less than 10 years ago. They sang shabads from it and did katha on it. Why the sudden change? Did they suddenly realize one night that this bani can't be true or legit?
