Sat Sri Akaal,

TRUTH is ONE it can never be two. Two is duality. for eg.
It's iight or darkness there is no interim

Either TRUE or False

Energy is universal else is generated operated destroyed.

Absolute TRUTH is without contradiction and is one .

GURUBANI is TRUTH.

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa
Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh

You said all the gurus only had one wife..

yes, I did

But the proposition seems only applicable to the living gurus..

obviously....

, sorry, am I missing something here? If we have arrived at this level of pedantry, how can serious discussion take place?

I was looking for clarification to the assertion that they only had one wife..

well, my apologies, in future, I will clarify whether I am referring to actions of living Gurus, or eternal Gurus, I did not realise that my statement was so misleading, but yes, I can see how you could have been confused by this.

I'm not sure that the evidence does stack up that guru gobind singh ji did only have one wife.

if that is the case then you must believe that the Anand Karaj ceremony, and indeed all subsequent philosophies, thoughts, wisdom and foundations did not actually apply to the Gurus themselves, which would have made them hypocrites, is 'do as i say, not as i do' acceptable in a Sikh Guru? my apologies, is the former acceptable in one of the 10 living Gurus (sorry, do I need to name them individually, or do you get the gist?)

I get it I just don't necessarily agree with it

In addressing the title -question ,which from my past experience may be quicker than addressing the post as a whole,it’s Sikh School 101 stuff but just incase of doubt-

Sikh is a follower of the Guru ,the belief he follows has over a few hundred years come to be known as Sikhism.
But don’t concern yourself with labels ,whoever calls on our God makes him his own.

good to see you again, but that does not work, should we just accept that everyone has their own version of Sikhism with their own version of a goal, and leave it at that? Brilliant let us all just bin rationality and logic and follow our hearts, because that is where he lives, .... Brilliant!

What is wrong with that why should we try and control and define something that is so beautiful and wonderful.. Why can't as in my mind sikhi be nonexclusive? Why can't it mean what is says on the label.. To seek, to quest?

Forgive the delay in replying

It’s always our version ,prayer is internalised ,it is outside time,God is exclusively yours. No Sikh should worry about if they are doing the right Sikhism,so long as they follow the Guru in their own honest way.
Just as Sheikh Farid reminds himself to wake up early and pray ,that’s not peculiar to him,it’s what we all should do.

Is talking to God whilst smoking a spliff and drinking a pint, whilst watching porn, then, as far as you two are concerned, the Sikhi way? where do you draw the line, or shall we just lose the line, damn line.

if we have no line, than my being unbecoming is probably the least of the issues, if we proceed further, then Idi Amin, the yorkshire ripper, pol pot and hitler were, according to this line of logic, all Sikhs. Sikh philosophy must then include bestiality, sex with kids, drugs, misogyny, corruption, money, big mercedes cars, lavish houses, ridiculous weddings, and the sort of superstition that would put a witch to shame.

Hmmm yes, I see your point, {censored} it, lets just run with it then, looks like we have been anyway for years.

There is the tram of Truth ,the way of the Sant ,your Guru described it,by naming Gurus it doesn’t mean you understand, the worms want him but the way of the swan,is not that of the crow ,your own thinking will harm you in yourself ,by listening to Guru’s word I have described it,may he overlook my lack of eloquence ,simply it is the honest way ,the kind way ,the path of perpetual peace.

Prompted by a discussion on another thread, My own answer, no idea, absolutely no idea at all, however, I do know what is not a Sikh, and what is not Sikhism, although it is all very subjective.
So that is what Sikhism is to me, and as for what is a Sikh, still no idea, other opinions welcome.

Simple: a sikh is a learner. That means a Sikh is by default open minded.

End of story. :)

I'm sorry but I don't buy this line of thinking, it's essentially very puritanical and by your own standards other than the most enlightened brahm gyanis are able to be sikh.. My understanding is that the truth is within us all as it a approach rather than a state of being.. We yearn naturally towards the truth and whether or not we are not worthy of it or stray from it is irrelevant..

Your basic premise suggests that to be a sikh you first have to have educated yourself in 'sikh philosophy' but surely that idea goes against the very exclusivity of guru nanak approach..

If sikhi and being a sikh is def or determined by some abstract test about who is qualified then surely that means undermining the inclusivity of it.. Why democratise the vedas.. Whilst we find it abhorrent and anathema that someone like Hitler is a sikh, full disclosure I find it abhorrent. I would say a sikh never calls themselves a sikh but rather always strives to become one..

I would say talking God whilst having a pint watching porn and having a spliff as you say is at least more real than being outwardly pious doing namaz five times a day, taking Amrit, or being able to read bani but not being humble, not treating a tramp on the streets as a human, feeling a sense superiority.. What is the point anyone can be a sheep and play the game

I don’t advocate multitasking when it comes to Bhakti ,you need to channel Gurbani to purify the self ,the word is the only thing in this world that is real.

Scarlet Pimpernal,

Guru fateh and welcome back. We missed your wit.

I beg to differ with you. Sikhi has nothing to do with multitasking I am afraid because being a Sikh is like the lens of our inner camera through which one makes the film of life.

It’s a screenplay of spectacular scale ,who am I to describe it ,better just play my part with gusto,A Sikh should pray from the heart ,speak from the heart ,act from the heart.
