What Does It Mean To Be Khalsa?

does one have to be baptised and follow a religious ritual to be khalsa? or is it ones deeds physically, consciously and sub consciously that make one khalsa? is it submission to guru gobind or god make one khalsa?
share your thoughts. my opinion is the deeds comment and submission to god.
