Patiala, January 26, 2011 - Bibi Joginder Kaur, wife of late Akali leader and Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) chief Panth Rattan Gurcharan Singh Tohra, died here today after a brief illness. She breathed her last at the residence of her daughter Kuldeep Kaur at 1315 hrs. She was 82 and was suffering from various ailments related to old age. Her departure from this earthly realm coincides with the birthday of Baba Deep Singh Shaheed.

The Punjab government had accorded Cabinet Minister status to Bibi Joginder Kaur Tohra in August last year.

Sukhbir Singh Badal, Deputy Chief Minister and President Shiromani Akali Dal Wednesday expressed deep shock at the demise of Joginder Kaur Tohra.
It is recalled that Sukhbir Badal had humiliated Tohra and was instrumental in his expulsion from SAD in 1999. Tohra could never recover the humiliation and died later. He had rejoined the SAD since he wanted to die as a Akali.

Sukhbir Badal described the death of Tohra as irreparable loss to Sikh Panth. He said that she stood like rock behind Panth Rattan late Jathedar Gurcharan Singh Tohra throughout his more than four decade service to the Panth.

Later Badal had a telephonic conversation her daughter Kuldip Kaur Tohra and son –in- law Former Minister Harmail Singh Tohra to express his personal condolences in this hour of grief. He expressed heartfelt sympathies with the bereaved family and prayed to Almighty to give peace to departed soul and strength to them to bear this irreparable loss.
Badal asked state authorities to make arrangements for cremation of Joginder Kaur Tohra with Full State Honors. It may be added that cremation of Joginder Kaur Tohra will be held at Village Tohra in District Patiala on Thursday January 27th, at 11.00 am.
