ਸਲੋਕੁ॥
Salok.
Salok (Core theme of eight sabads/hymns in the Astpadi)

ਗਿਆਨਅੰਜਨੁਗੁਰਿਦੀਆਅਗਿਆਨਅੰਧੇਰਬਿਨਾਸੁ॥ ਹਰਿਕਿਰਪਾਤੇਸੰਤਭੇਟਿਆਨਾਨਕਮਨਿਪਰਗਾਸੁ॥੧॥
Gi▫ān anjan gur ḏī▫ā agi▫ān anḏẖer binās. Har kirpā ṯe sanṯ bẖeti▫ā Nānak man pargās. ||1||
Creator gave the clarity powder of understanding, darkness of ignorance so destroyed. With creator’s blessing, met the pious learned and so enlightened the mind.

ਅਸਟਪਦੀ॥
Asatpaḏī.
Eight stanzas hymn

ਸੰਤਜਨਾਕਾਪੇਖਨੁਸਭੁਬ੍ਰਹਮ॥ ਸੰਤਜਨਾਕੈਹਿਰਦੈਸਭਿਧਰਮ॥
Sanṯ janā kā pekẖan sabẖ barahm. Sanṯ janā kai hirḏai sabẖ ḏẖaram.
Pious learned people see the creator everywhere. Pious learned people hearts filled with all pure dictum.

ਸੰਤਜਨਾਸੁਨਹਿਸੁਭਬਚਨ॥ ਸਰਬਬਿਆਪੀਰਾਮਸੰਗਿਰਚਨ॥
Sanṯ janā sunėh subẖ bacẖan. Sarab bi▫āpī rām sang racẖan.
Pious learned people listen to worthy words. So enjoined in essence with the omni-present creator.

ਜਿਨਿਜਾਤਾਤਿਸਕੀਇਹਰਹਤ॥ ਸਤਿਬਚਨਸਾਧੂਸਭਿਕਹਤ॥
Jin jāṯā ṯis kī ih rahaṯ. Saṯ bacẖan sāḏẖū sabẖ kahaṯ.
Those that understood, so adopted this way of living. All words so true as said by the pious.

ਜੋਜੋਹੋਇਸੋਈਸੁਖੁਮਾਨੈ॥ ਕਰਨਕਰਾਵਨਹਾਰੁਪ੍ਰਭੁਜਾਨੈ॥
Jo jo ho▫e so▫ī sukẖ mānai. Karan karāvanhār parabẖ jānai.
As what happens such accepted as of comfort. Creator the doer and that gets done so knows.

ਅੰਤਰਿਬਸੇਬਾਹਰਿਭੀਓਹੀ॥ ਨਾਨਕਦਰਸਨੁਦੇਖਿਸਭਮੋਹੀ॥੪॥
Anṯar base bāhar bẖī ohī. Nānak ḏarsan ḏekẖ sabẖ mohī. ||4||
Residing inside, same outside. Nanak, all creation so enamored with such vision.

ESSENCE: In the salok, Guru ji recognize that inner darkness is wiped with understanding. Such understanding is greatly facilitated through blessing of pious company.

Guru Arjan Dev ji in Astpadi 23, 4th sabad describe the enriched understanding of the pious. The pious see creator everywhere with a pure heart, enjoined with the creator and heed to worthy words. The pious so adopting this regimen are of higher understanding and so speak the truth. Take all that happens as comfort and recognize the direction of the creator.

Guru ji conclude that one inside and outside is all the same and much of creation is enamored with such a vision.
