Salok (Core theme of eight sabads/hymns in the Astpadi)
ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਕੇ ਠਾਕੁਰਾ ਆਪੇ ਵਰਤਣਹਾਰ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਏਕੋ ਪਸਰਿਆ ਦੂਜਾ ਕਹ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਾਰ ॥੧॥
Jī▫a janṯ ke ṯẖākurā āpe varṯanhār. Nānak eko pasri▫ā ḏūjā kah ḏaristār. ||1||
Master of the living and life, by self so interacting everywhere. Nanak, only one so present, where has second been seen!
ਅਸਟਪਦੀ॥
Asatpaḏī.
Eight stanzas hymn
ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ੍ਰ ਸਭ ਤਾ ਕੈ ਹਾਥ ॥ ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਅਨਾਥ ਕੋ ਨਾਥੁ ॥
Jī▫a janṯar sabẖ ṯā kai hāth. Ḏīn ḏa▫i▫āl anāth ko nāth.
Living and life all in hands of so. Blissful to the meek, custodian of the forlorn.
ਜਿਸੁ ਰਾਖੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਮਾਰੈ ॥ ਸੋ ਮੂਆ ਜਿਸੁ ਮਨਹੁ ਬਿਸਾਰੈ ॥
Jis rākẖai ṯis ko▫e na mārai. So mū▫ā jis manhu bisārai.
One so protected, such none can destroy. Such is like dead, who is so forgotten in the mind.
ਤਿਸੁ ਤਜਿ ਅਵਰ ਕਹਾ ਕੋ ਜਾਇ ॥ ਸਭ ਸਿਰਿ ਏਕੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਰਾਇ ॥
Ŧis ṯaj avar kahā ko jā▫e. Sabẖ sir ek niranjan rā▫e.
Leaving so where can one go. Such one unencumbered king is protection over all heads.
ਜੀਅ ਕੀ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਸਭ ਹਾਥਿ ॥ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਜਾਨਹੁ ਸਾਥਿ ॥
Jī▫a kī jugaṯ jā kai sabẖ hāth. Anṯar bāhar jānhu sāth.
The knowledge of living is in hands of such. Recognize such close inside and out.
ਗੁਨ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਅਪਾਰ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਸਦਾ ਬਲਿਹਾਰ ॥੨॥
Gun niḏẖān be▫anṯ apār. Nānak ḏās saḏā balihār. ||2||
Treasure of virtues, infinite and without limits. Nanak humble servant, forever in respectful service.
