Salok (Core theme of eight sabads/hymns in the Astpadi)

Sāth na cẖālai bin bẖajan bikẖi▫ā saglī cẖẖār. Har har nām kamāvanā Nānak ih ḏẖan sār. ||1||
Nothing goes with one except contemplation, all wealth turns to ashes. Creator, creator’s understanding is the only wealth worthy of making.

Asatpaḏī.
Eight stanzas hymn

Sang na cẖālas ṯerai ḏẖanā. Ŧūʼn ki▫ā laptāvahi mūrakẖ manā.
Wealth does not accompany you. Foolish mind why you embrace so.

Suṯ mīṯ kutamb ar baniṯā. In ṯe kahhu ṯum kavan sanāthā.
Son, friend, family and wife. Say of these, who will give you company.

Rāj rang mā▫i▫ā bisthār. In ṯe kahhu kavan cẖẖutkār.
Kingdom and pleasures, worldly possessions and entanglements. Say who has so escaped of such.

As hasṯī rath asvārī. Jẖūṯẖā damf jẖūṯẖ pāsārī.
Horses, elephants and chariot rides. False displays, false expanses.

Jin ḏī▫e ṯis bujẖai na bigānā. Nām bisār Nānak pacẖẖuṯānā. ||5||
One who gave, the foolish does not recognize. Nanak forgetting the understanding, begets regret.
ESSENCE: In the salok, Guru ji state that all becomes ashes and the only effort that sustains is contemplation of the creator. Also only wealth worth making is creator’s understanding.

Guru Arjan Dev ji in Astpadi 19, 5th sabad state that worldly possessions, wealth, attachments with family and friends, fame and high life do not have ever lasting accompaniment. What sustains always is the linking to the creator through understanding and more of it.

Guru ji conclude that in spite that all needs to be recognized as coming from one creator, we continuously regret not understanding.
Please note all errors are mine and I stand corrected.

Sat Sri Akal.
