ਸਲੋਕੁ ॥
Salok.
Salok (Core theme of eight sabads/hymns in the Astpadi)

ਰੂਪੁ ਨ ਰੇਖ ਨ ਰੰਗੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਹੁ ਗੁਣ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਿੰਨ ॥ ਤਿਸਹਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ॥੧॥
Rūp na rekẖ na rang kicẖẖ ṯarihu guṇ ṯe parabẖ bẖinn. Ŧisėh bujẖā▫e nānkā jis hovai suparsan. ||1||
Creator is devoid of three in form, shape and color. Nanak only such are provided understanding, whom such is pleased with.

ਅਸਟਪਦੀ॥
Asatpaḏī.
Eight stanzas hymn

ਰੂਪੁ ਸਤਿ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਸਤਿ ਅਸਥਾਨੁ ॥ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਸਤਿ ਕੇਵਲ ਪਰਧਾਨੁ ॥
Rūp saṯ jā kā saṯ asthān. Purakẖ saṯ keval parḏẖān.
True persona and true abode. Only the omni-present true one is supreme.

ਕਰਤੂਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਜਾ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ॥ ਸਤਿ ਪੁਰਖ ਸਭ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ ॥
Karṯūṯ saṯ saṯ jā kī baṇī. Saṯ purakẖ sabẖ māhi samāṇī.
Deeds are true and true are the words. The true creator is imbued in all.

ਸਤਿ ਕਰਮੁ ਜਾ ਕੀ ਰਚਨਾ ਸਤਿ ॥ ਮੂਲੁ ਸਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਉਤਪਤਿ ॥
Saṯ karam jā kī racẖnā saṯ. Mūl saṯ saṯ uṯpaṯ.
True benevolence and true creation. True origin, true that so originates from such.

ਸਤਿ ਕਰਣੀ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨਿਰਮਲੀ ॥ ਜਿਸਹਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ਤਿਸਹਿ ਸਭ ਭਲੀ ॥
Saṯ karṇī nirmal nirmalī. Jisahi bujẖā▫e ṯisėh sabẖ bẖalī.
True ways purer than the purest. One who is provided insight, such is all so well.

ਸਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਾ ਸੁਖਦਾਈ ॥ ਬਿਸ੍ਵਾਸੁ ਸਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਪਾਈ ॥੬॥
Saṯ nām parabẖ kā sukẖ▫ḏā▫ī. Bisvās saṯ Nānak gur ṯe pā▫ī. ||6||
The ever unchanging realization provides comfort. Nanak such true leaning came from the creator.

ESSENCE: In the salok, Guru ji state that the creator has no form, shape or color and is understood by those so happily blessed.

Guru Arjan Dev ji in Astpadi 16, 6th sabad describe the eternal truth of creator and how it forms a basis for all and forever. The true one is eternal, in all and supreme. All the associated manifestations of action are of truth and purity originating. These are the basis of true deeds.

Guru ji conclude that true understanding brings comfort and trust for this comes through the creator.
