ਸਲੋਕੁ ॥
Salok.
Salok (Core theme of eight sabads/hymns in the Astpadi)

ਤਜਹੁ ਸਿਆਨਪ ਸੁਰਿ ਜਨਹੁ ਸਿਮਰਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇ ॥ ਏਕ ਆਸ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਰਖਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੂਖੁ ਭਰਮੁ ਭਉ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥
Ŧajahu si▫ānap sur janhu simrahu har har rā▫e. Ėk ās har man rakẖahu Nānak ḏūkẖ bẖaram bẖa▫o jā▫e. ||1||
Good people leave cleverness and contemplate on the creator lord and king. Expect of one creator in the mind; ills, doubt and fear will leave.

ਅਸਟਪਦੀ॥
Asatpaḏī.
Eight stanzas hymn

ਨਹ ਕਿਛੁ ਜਨਮੈ ਨਹ ਕਿਛੁ ਮਰੈ ॥ ਆਪਨ ਚਲਿਤੁ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਕਰੈ ॥
Nah kicẖẖ janmai nah kicẖẖ marai. Āpan cẖaliṯ āp hī karai.
Nothing is born and nothing dies. The play is conducted by such (creator) by self.

ਆਵਨੁ ਜਾਵਨੁ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਅਨਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ॥ ਆਗਿਆਕਾਰੀ ਧਾਰੀ ਸਭ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ॥
Āvan jāvan ḏarisat an▫ḏarisat. Āgi▫ākārī ḏẖārī sabẖ sarisat.
Coming and going, seen and unseen. All the universe been created to follow obediently.

ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਸਗਲ ਮਹਿ ਆਪਿ ॥ ਅਨਿਕ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਰਚਿ ਥਾਪਿ ਉਥਾਪਿ ॥
Āpe āp sagal mėh āp. Anik jugaṯ racẖ thāp uthāp.
Self by self (creator) and self in all. Using many methods establishes and takes apart.

ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਿਛੁ ਖੰਡ ॥ ਧਾਰਣ ਧਾਰਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੰਡ ॥
Abẖināsī nāhī kicẖẖ kẖand. Ḏẖāraṇ ḏẖār rahi▫o barahmand.
Indestructible and nothing of is indestructible. Architects the architecture of all the universe.

ਅਲਖ ਅਭੇਵ ਪੁਰਖ ਪਰਤਾਪ ॥ ਆਪਿ ਜਪਾਏ ਤ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਾਪ ॥੬॥
Alakẖ abẖev purakẖ parṯāp. Āp japā▫e ṯa Nānak jāp. ||6||
The supreme creator cannot be ascribed or searched. Nanak, one only contemplates if such (creator) so directs.

ESSENCE: In the salok, Guru ji say that cleverness is not needed to understand the creator. The linking to one creator removes ills, doubt and fear.

Guru Arjan Dev ji in Astpadi 14, 6th sabad describe all the ever transforms. Nothing is born or dies but so transforms, all universe seen and not seen continues like clockwork, many a methods of creating and destruction but self in all, the chief indestructible architect the creator.

Guru ji conclude the creator cannot be searched or described but one is so graced to do so.
