In creator’s understanding, all treasures reside. In creator’s understanding, one realizes the ultimate fundamental wisdom.
Parabẖ kai simran jap ṯap pūjā.
In creator’s understanding, all study and physical efforts are supplanted. In creator’s understanding, one loses the need to search else.
Parabẖ kai simran ṯirath isnānī. Parabẖ kai simran ḏargėh mānī.
In creator’s understanding, one supplants holy bathtaking. In creator’s understanding, one finds ultimate acceptance in creation.
Parabẖ kai simran ho▫e so bẖalā. Parabẖ kai simran sufal falā.
In creator’s understanding, all that happens is seen as for good. In creator’s understanding, the life blossoms like fruit

Only those seek understanding who are intuitively so guided by the creator. Guru Nanak respectfully touches the feet of such.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
ESSENCE: Guru ji in the salok first offer respects to the creator as originator, time immemorial, truth and divine.
In this Third Shabad of First Astpadi, Guru ji describe that in lie understanding of the creator the identification of treasures, the identification of fundamental knowledge, understanding displaces other means like physical exercises and ritualistic practices like holy baths. Only such understanding is declared of value as this provides recognition of good and also provides feedback on one’s progress to full fruition. Guru ji highly covet the seekers of understanding and do say it comes through a cajoling by the creator.
Please note all errors are mine and I stand corrected.
Ambarsaria ji,
Guru Fateh.
Yes indeed. It urges us and givess us the tools how to take our blinders off. That is why in my thinking, Sikhi is not a faith, nor a religion but a way of life where truthful living is the highest form of human contribution in this little speck of sand called the Earth.
Truth stands on its on, hence it needs no blind faiths nor any dogmas but demands from us living the life of a pragmatist.
Thanks & regards
Some observations are visual examples of holy baths and physical regimens.
It is pretty hard to know the intent or what is in the heart of someone when they do these practices. If these are to receive gift of salvation or understanding, this sabad warns against such. If it is simply to take a bath to clean yourself, that is fine or remember your visit to a place that should be fine.
The other part of physical regimens like ashes, non-stop standing for hours, sitting with eyes closed for hours, need to be watched as creator can be well understood with eyes open and full awareness.
Can you elaborate the following pankti little further. Does it mean God guides to certain selected people.
ਸੇ ਸਿਮਰਹਿ ਜਿਨ ਆਪਿ ਸਿਮਰਾਏ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਾ ਕੈ ਲਾਗਉ ਪਾਏ ੩॥
Only those seek understanding who are intuitively so guided by the creator. Guru Nanak respectfully touches the feet of such
japjisahib04 ji I thanks for your post. I do want to state that God per Abrahmanic postulations is not part of Sikhism as I understand. It is not HIM and us but one in all.
My further elaboration as follows,
ਸੇ ਸਿਮਰਹਿ ਜਿਨ ਆਪਿ ਸਿਮਰਾਏ
Only those seek understanding who are intuitively so guided by the creator.
Elaboration: Throughout SGGS it is commonly guided that we are all inside. We are same soul, heart and mind. Once created we go different ways. Many things rise in our heart that cause us to do. So in this ਆਪਿ implies self intuitively triggered by Creator where creator is in us and all that is around. The coincidence of all this causes us to ਸਿਮਰਹਿ. How does this coincidence arise? Through the creator what is within and through creation all around that is contributing. This is all part of oneness and ਆਪਿ.
Is it possible that a person is going to trigger it, yes. Is it possible that you walk past an animal and it triggers it, yes. Is it possible you have a dream and it triggers it, yes. Is it possible a birth or death triggers it, yes. Is it possible that it never gets triggered, yes. But this is all part of ਆਪਿ .
So it is not a specific repeatable action/circumstance in all but in some so "intuitively" in state to receive such action and reaction.
I will be happy to hear other thoughts, suggestions and corrections if the above does not appear right.
Ambarsaria ji, and Mohinder Singh ji,
Guru Fateh.
Allow me to pitch in my 2 cent worth.
Gurbani is like Tom Tom GPS on our windshield. Tom Tom will only give us directions if we punch in the destination and switch it on.
Now coming back to the tuk:
ਸੇ ਸਿਮਰਹਿ ਜਿਨ ਆਪਿ ਸਿਮਰਾਏ
Only those seek understanding who are intuitively so guided by the creator.
It tells us that once we "switch on" the connection within with Ik Ong Kaar by realising, understanding and practicing Gurbani, then this GPS called Gurbani will direct us towards the path of goodness which will not only affect our lives but also of those who are near and dear to us and also others we get in contact with.
Also, it does not state that Creator guides those to understanding, it states that Creator plants the seed of questions that push someone to seek understanding, to me this says that not all those who seek, find, ..
But all those that seek have a Creator planted need to do so,
I have met people who have no interest at all in the subject, they seem happy enough, maybe it is Hukam that they just live without worrying about it,
meaning of sukhmani
sukhmani is made of two words sukh + mani suk plus mani sukh means happiness and mani means precious jewel so if we join both words we will get the full meaning precious jewel of happiness ie. if u wl do this path then u will get the peace of mind and all happiness which you need in life ,so whenever u r sad js do
this path n u vl get peace and harmony of mind.
meaning of first ashtpadi :
meditate ,meditate ,by meditation peace is found.
antagonism and dispute are dispelled from your body.
Meditate and praise the one who pervades the whole universe.
countless people ,in so many ways chant ur god's name.
The vedas ,the puranas and the simritees ,the purest if utterances,
All say the same word for the one lord.
That one,in whom even for a second you dwell-their praises cannot be recounted.
Those who yearn only for the blessing of your sight-Nanak save me along with them .
Is gurbani a mantar that by meditating antagonism and dispute are dispelled? Had it been so easy, chinese would definately have developed a module to end the antagoism and created love throughout? Everyone is yearning for love. It would be have been very profitable venture. The rahao pankti of this ashtpadhi leads towards stability of mind i.e. achieved only after listening, understanding and practicing the divine wisdom.
