Today is the Feast Day of Saint Francis in the Catholic Church. I'm sure all of you know his famous prayer, his deep desire for opportunities for seva (selfless service):
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love.
Where there is injury, pardon.
Where there is doubt, faith.
Where there is despair, hope.
Where there is darkness, light.
Where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master,
grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled, as to console;
to be understood, as to understand;
to be loved, as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive.
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life.
Amen.
There is another prayer by him that I love. Saint Francis loved animals and spoke to them. His prayer reflects Saint Francis' love of nature. It begins:
Praised be You my Lord with all Your creatures,
especially Sir Brother Sun,
Who is the day through whom You give us light.
And he is beautiful and radiant with great splendour,
Of You Most High, he bears the likeness.
.....
Muhammad is also known for his kindness to animals. I also love animals and nature & consider it as sacred as human life. What are the Sikh teachings on the sacredness of nature, aside from it being maya?
