JALANDHAR: A group of Sikhs was reportedly forced to remove turbans at Milan airport before they could board a flight on January 27.

This comes in the wake of an uproar over full pat-down, including turbans, in the US recently. On Friday, Karamjit Singh Dhillon, president of Indian Overseas Congress (Italy), who is settled there for 27 years, said he and nine other Sikhs were told to remove their turbans at the airport.

"We all protested. When I said I would prefer not to board the flight, we were taken to a private room where we had to remove our turbans," Dhillon alleged. He said the security staff told them that their scanning machine was not working.

The flight was to go to Doha from where the group had to reach India. "The experience left all of us humiliated. We are now taking it up with Indian authorities," said Dhillon.
