A shoe was thrown at Union Home Minister P Chidambaram during a press conference that missed him.
The shoe was thrown by a journalist from Dainak Jagran, Jarnail Singh, who was asking a question on the 1984 Sikh riots.
The man was immediately taken off the conference room and has been detained.
A composed Chidambaram said, "I am not distracted, let one man's action not mar the press conference."
Chidambaram was addressing the media on Monday's Guwahati blasts and security arrangements in the country.
While speaking to NDTV, Jarnail Singh said, "It's my protest against the clean chit to Tytler."
