The environment and looking after the world we live in is a major part of the beliefs and values of Sikhism. We’re here on this world not for ourselves but to help and assist all others on this planet.
The Sikh Green Team was put together to help educate the community on environmental issues. Various events have been held throughout 2010 to promote awareness and knowledge of environmental issues. Some of these events include:
Future projects include the creation of an open community garden. This peer-led program will allow local residents, seniors and children alike, to part-take in the project. Temple official’s hope this project will help bridge a generation gap, pass knowledge between ages and reconnect the youth to the food they eat, while educating everyone on how to be environmentally conscious.
More information on the Sikh Green Team will be available in the future at www.sikhgreenteam.com and you can volunteer or find out more information through greenteam@sikhyouth.ca or 604-561-9393
