Hello all

as a new member of this, a question which i always think about is people's views on girls that keep the hair that is on the head, but remove all other hair...do people think that they should just remove all hair instead of keepin their kess only? or do they think it is a bigger commitment keeping their head hair?

i ask this question as a Sikh girl, who keeps her head hair, but removes all other hair - legs, arms etc. i am wondering what peoples view on this situation would be, as i do not know whether keeping the hair on my head is worthwhile as i remove all other hair.

also, could anybody who has any literature on the issue of hair and its removal please send me it and tell me exactly where it says we should keep our hair in the guru granth sahib.

it is a growing dillemma within England, as girls remove all hair but that that is on their head and as a confused sikh girl, i am asking for advice on the situation.

thank you

Re:sikh girls that don't cut their head hair, but remove all other hair on their body

Waheguru ji ka khalsa, Waheguru ji ki fateh

Where it be your head, arms, legs, eye brows.... hair is hair.
As per SIKHI... we are not to remove hair, that means anywhere on the body.
As far as others opinions go, i dont think you should not be worried about what other people think. People only judge because they have an ego problem that may need to be resolved hehe. Do what you feel is right in your heart...and move on. Yes keeping your hair is important, but building that relationship with WAHEGURU is number one. All else comes second, if your relationship with him has not reached the level, who are people to judge whether you are right or wrong. Some people ma say " oh she is a hypocrit... keeping her head hair but not her legs/ arms".. but you know what.... WHO CARES WHAT THEY THINK..if Waheguru permits you will one day keep all hair but until then keep what you have and work on what you don't.

Haha i hope that answered your questions.. kind of all over the place with my so called "thoughts". FOr references... ill send them once i have more time.

hi, i felt like inputting.

I have actually red something about some women's (purataan perhaps) rehit (please be open minded with this) with other body hair being allowed to be removed except head hair, also there was something to with the rehit being made more liberal due to child-rearing responsibilities

I have been trying to find out more about this, but have been unsuccessful at present...

Re: sikh girls that do not cut their head hair, but remove all other hair on their bo

The body is a like a garden, it flows with the nectar of goodness, the blood of our forefathers and other matter consumed upon the earth. As with a garden it requires maintenance and grooming. Whilst remaining mindful to resist overindulgence and preoccupation with external face value and appearance daily grooming is a matter of respect for the body temples as daily recitation of Morning Prayer cleanses and attunes the mind toward the higher consciousness whilst going about our daily chores and responsibilities.

Sikh girls similar to the Italian and Greek are found at times to be little furballs. Whilst tresses are a woman’s crowning glory, superfluous hair on face or excessive hair on the body is unsightly and if found to provoke self consciousness can be removed. It is a personal matter entirely, yet forcing girls and ladies to retain facial or heavy body hair is unfair and unsightly. As a flower garden requires tendering, Beauty shines from within when weeded from without ...

No hair should be removed whether man or woman. Talk about bending and twisting Hukams. It's too much waking up 2 in the morning for amrit vaylaa, so I guess it's superflous for me to wake up this early. Sikhs are not flower gardens they are the lotus flower.

WEll, I disagree with the comparison of the human body with a garden. Hair does not grow like grass and flowers and grass. It can be managed without cutting whereas a garden becomes a habitat for critters if you don't cut the grass. On the other hand, hair doesnt do that. If it does become infected with critters:D they can be removed using other methods not involving the cutting of hair.

I agree with this. I think we should let this trend continue but try to inhibit it at its roots... the media...

Singh ji

Please debate the issues and avoid harsh words directed at individual members. You know that this is a forum rule. Thank you. aad0002

Actually what i said is a crucial point when "Bhagat Singh" speaks on Gurbani or rehit. what i said is apart of the issue. Why debate with anyone that says Gurbani is maya. This point is the essence of the discusion and can't be ignored and needs to be told to every formula member that it was said by this member and refused to apalogize even after given the chance. If i was the one who said something this harsh toward Gurbani I would tell Aman Singh ji to never let me write on this discussion board ever again. In Gurdwara Committees if a member says anything bad toward Gurbani or the Gurus they are automatically kicked out. The Gurus held Gurbani even higher than them. Something to think about!

I'm actually helping members by giving them this information. It saves them their time, effort, and a headache to debate that will lead no where, but only let this member continue the bashing of Sikhi.

Re: Sikh Girls Who Do Not Cut Their Head Hair, But Remove All Other Hair on Their Bod

BhagatSingh Ji – A garden grows flowers, vegetable, trees and tropical foliage. If is not regulary weeded the weeds grow profusely and strangle the flowers, poison and disease the vegetables and fruit, and hell ensues. For this reason it must be diligently tended and with discrimination, as some horticultural novices find some difficult in discerning weeds from greenery. ....

There remains a threat and danger of eastern society and spirituality being eroded by American type fixation upon outward appearance with absolute disregard for matters spiritual. A quagmire of the sinful, misguided, and driven by greed anti culture spends trillions a year on radical surgery make over’s, enhancement and physical alterations to accomplish an appearance of beauty that remains as elusive for all their endeavour and striving.

Emancipation, so called liberation and freedom of speech and will are laughable terms given consideration to the struggle, need, craving and want that grows in direct correlation with the discarding of any morality, civilisation, respectability, values and virtue discarded and sacrificed at the later of a vicarious and vociferous media seeking to profit from the contrived and engineered demands of a public desperately seeking its soul, a beauty and truth...

**
I vehemently disagree with Singh above me. The danger of feminism and man hating women is almost at times equal to the insecure attitude oppressive men have towards women and the counterproductive stance this opportune the aforementioned.

Virtuous women of devotion to father and brethren have an inner beauty far surpassing any glitzed muse. It is a beauty that gives forth light to its brethren and we have no desire to see it devalued or made an object of criticism by the neglect of such routine grooming. ***

Re: sikh girls that do not cut their head hair, but remove all other hair on their bo

Singh Ji,

I, definitely, respect your point of view. But i wonder how kicking out a member from a Gurdwara committee ever helped you in your Sikhi in any way? When a Gurdwara Committe kicks a person, they are feeding their insecurity. Why do you think that this is the right approach. Should we hate the infidels? Why are you insecure?

Respect for Gurbani is by heart. No matter how you preach a person to do a thing, he will get more adamant to do the opposite with even more zeal... Child psychology at work here...

Don't you think your approach against a person like Bhagat Singh seems Talibanist, where a person asking questions against a religion is executed in public... So called followers of religion force a community to follow a way of life by Fear factor... Sikhism is a religion of Love and Compassion... Love your Sikhi... Please do not bring Sikhi to disrepute by your hate-filled emotional outburts... Your side-comments create a background for people to ridicule the faith of yours... Simply present you point of views and let the readers decide for themselves...

A Humble request,

Warm Regards

Re: Sikh Girls Who Do Not Cut Their Head Hair, But Remove All Other Hair on Their Bod

Trillion dollar depilation industry permitting, scientist are required to find out why the hair growth occurs in both genders and devise a prohibitive method to limit growth of hair in any place but where nature intended. Our Lord and Creater did not create man as a human furball, it is a malady of sorts requiring one step permanent cure in order to avert feeding an unscrupulous industry.

Forgive me if I inadvertently offend. Respectfully. ...

hmm, I guess people opposed to bani might not be on gurdwara commitees, but then what about AKJ gurdwaras like Tapoban Sahib, would they not be full of anti raagmala commitee members?

Yes, I mean these rehits do actually show us some history.

And yes, Adi Guru Granth Sahib is above this kinda stuff, I agree since its for bhagti.

The hair thing is more important for those loyal to the khalsa army, whcih would be Buddha Dal and the Akali Nihang fauj, these rules were for these ascetic warriors and not for everyday commonfolk.

The problem I have here, and other memebers will agree with me aswell is that when anyone speaks badly toward Gurbani, the Gurus, Amrit Sanskar, a mod doesn't do anything about it. But does comes in, only to give an exuse in favor of the person speaking badly toward Gurbani.

BUT, when a member, who spoke badly of Gurbani, is spoken with harsh words, a mod steps in right away, warns the other to not speak in that way and threatens with banning from the site. Tell me where the true justice is??????????

To a creature we can't speak harshly (only done because he spoke wrongly toward Gurbani), but to Gurbani any member can have a go at it and nothing is done. We humans are nothing when speaking about Gurbani and yet a human is valued more than Gurbani here. I am appalled by this behaviours. How backwards have Sikhs become these days. For a Sikh, Sikhi is put above everything, but here it is thrown in the back seat of a car with no roof. This forces me to ask the same question again, where is the true justice here? How long will one walk with his face turned away from this problem!

After being on this site for around a year, I can truly say I know what Guru ji means when it is said we are in Kalyug.

Re: Sikh Girls Who Do Not Cut Their Head Hair, But Remove All Other Hair on Their Bod

Bani is the amrit, the elixir, the nectar given to the truly blessed. For those who take the grace and received beneficence boastfully it becomes akin to Maya, a blessed wealth the very few enjoy. It is true in a rather traversed way, removed from the principle ethos. Yes it can be misconstrued as blasphemy is taken to the extreme vantage point but few would entertain the notion of such a lapse of conceptual creationism. It is also Maya and baap to make humungous mountains and issues of what are minor points or erring s off topic. In matters of transgression silence is preferable and a diligent maintaining of one’s own verbiage decreases the urge to be overtly harshly critical of others.

Re: Sikh Girls Who Do Not Cut Their Head Hair, But Remove All Other Hair on Their Bod

Before these guidelines, comes the following text:

SPN Forum Rules

** Comments made by any member do not reflect upon ideology of Sikhism.Us (Sikh Philosophy Network)**

Guidelines for Comparative Studies:

Whilst SPN encourages positive interfaith dialogue and exercises in comparative religion, we do not accept direct or indirect attacks on the individuality of Sikhism. Any posts deemed to be doing so will be removed from the forum without notice.

The Guru Granth Sahib is the ultimate authority of the Sikhs. Any abuse or disrespect towards it in any form – directly or implied, will not be tolerated. Ridicule of the Sikh Religion, Sikh Scriptures, 5Ks or of the Khalsa will not be allowed and removed from forums without notice.

Comparative religious discussions can be educational, but ridiculing other faiths or excessive criticism of their beliefs is not constructive and it is not allowed on SPN. We need to be tolerant of our differences and accept people for what they are instead of being critical of their beliefs. All allegations must be backed up by verifiable references from neutral sources.

Posts looking for converts to Deras, Sects, other faiths, religions, etc; posts that preach their philosophies, promote their URLs etc; and posts that push one-sided political agendas will be edited or deleted. Messages affecting Sikhs in religious, cultural or other matters are welcome. Forum Leaders reserve the right to disallow other types of messages. Do not propagate the views or arguments of any non-member or suspended member. Repeated forwarding of controversial views on the same subject will be viewed as a serious breach of SPN Guidelines.

Singh Ji,

There are around 99% topics which are totally dedicated to Gurmat Vichar, we can concentrate our energies on these threads. Choice is ours to be part of a negetive energy or positive energy inflow... there are also members like pk70, Amarpal Ji, Tejwant Ji, Gyanji Jarnail Singh and many others who never care about such negetive inflows. Choice is yours. One thing is for sure we have to accept the good alongwith the bad otherwise we would not understand what is good...

Singh ji, we have basically the same point of view but with different perspectives... for you asking questions is a disrespect to Gurbani, for others asking questions is a source of enlightenment... both are craving for merging with the Creator... :) We as humans may not be capable of answering some of the questions posed by fellow humans and consider this an attach on Sikhi/Gurbani... Only the Waheguru knows what is right what is wrong...

SPN is only trying to present a platform which is a little bit more liberal than many other networks online who are close-ended and in the event of difference of opinion, you are alienated... these network work only like a groups of like minded people... but SPN is an effort to cater to these so called groups as a whole... i hope you are getting my point of view...

...and our mods (Forum Leaders) try their level best to keep the network well balanced and there may be some shortcomings, as identified by you and many others and we shall try to overcome these fallacies... you may have noticed that stern warning was given to Bhagat Singh in another thread to avoid ridiculing the faith of thers and he seems to have mend his ways quite obiviously... judging a person for his past acts is not right... if he is mending his ways then we should also mend ours to keep the right balance. We can not simply condemn a person for some past acts/views.

Singh Ji,

Here lies the duty of a responsible member like you... :)

Singh Ji, there are more than 7,500 minds sharing their perspectives on 80,000+ topics on daily basis and you will realize that there are only 2-3 Forum Leaders active at any given moment... and there may be more than 40-50 new messages on diverse topics to moderate at any given time... and this piles up if a Leader or two are busy with other worldly affairs... after all the all Leaders are doing a purely voluntary Service by investing their precious time at SPN round the clock... and you would also understand that there may have been some instances, where some posts go may go un-noticed from the fast scanning eyes of a Admin/Leader... But you will also notice that at the top of each posted message there is a feature called 'Report This Post' ... and if you found some message which hurt your feelings, did you ever acted as a responsible member and reported that post for a serious review...

How can you simply held only the SPN Forum Leaders responsible for everything?... Let us be alive to our own responsibilties before pointing fingers at others... :)

Warm Regards

I was watching this documentary and they said how Buddhists believe that even God can be a source of unhealthy attachment. This accounts for their atheistic belief. So does SGGS stand a chance?...

Back to hair, I think we should let this trend continue but attack at the roots of the trend, the media. Change media and you change the world! Once the roots are destroyed even the mighiest of trees will fall!
