Pro-Khalistan slogans raised in Golden Temple complex

India Gazette (IANS) - Wednesday 6th June, 2012

Defying directions from the head of the Akal Takht, pro-Khalistan slogans were raised Wednesday by a handful of people during the function to mark the 28th anniversary of Operation Bluestar by the Indian Army at the Golden Temple complex here.

The main focus of the event Wednesday was on the memorial being set up near the Akal Takht, the highest temporal seat of Sikhism, by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) to honour those killed during the Operation Bluestar June 1984.

Scores of people, including devotees, heavily armed terrorists and security personnel were killed during the operation in which the army entered the complex around the Harmandir Sahib, popularly known as the Golden Temple, to flush out heavily-armed terrorists led by radical Sikh leader Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale.

The Golden Temple complex, except for the sanctum sanctorum, suffered extensive damage during the army operation in which mortars and heavy artillery were used against the equally heavily-armed terrorists holed up inside the complex. The Akal Takht, which was badly damaged, was re-built.

Akal Takht jathedar (chief), Gurbachan Singh, read out the message for the Sikh religion on the occasion. He said that the Sikhs will never forget the darkest chapter in their religious history.

Hundreds of devotees were present during the occasion.

The Sikh clergy and the SGPC honoured Kamaldeep Kaur, sister of Balwant Singh Rajoana, a Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terrorist who has been condemned to the gallows for the assassination (Aug 31, 1995) conspiracy of then Punjab chief minister Beant Singh.

SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar told media Wednesday that building a memorial for those killed in Operation Bluestar was justified. He said that the Sikh religion will never forget the operation and the damage it did to the Sikh psyche.

Radical Sikh organisations marked the day as genocide day.

Religious prayers were offered for those who died during the operation.

We easily forgot families of Shaheeds and zinda shaheeds like Bhai Rajoana!

I wonder if there had been a monthly samagam for upliftment of residents of Widow Colony, Delhi, their present would have been much better!

BJP slams SAD over honour to terrorists
Our Political Correspondent

New Delhi, June 6
After its initial silence on the sensitive issue, the BJP today fielded its senior leader Balbir Punj to distance itself from its ally, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), which has endorsed the move to honour terrorists killed in Operation Bluestar.

Disapproving of the Akalis' decision to construct a memorial at the Golden Temple where Operation Bluestar took place 28 years ago, Punj said this will encourage "anti-national" activities and upset the march of peace and prosperity being witnessed in Punjab under the leadership of CM Prakash Singh Badal.

The BJP is also unhappy that the Akal Takht had honoured Balwant Singh Rajoana, a convict in former Chief Minister Beant Singh's assassination case, with the title of 'Zinda Shaheed' today. A death row convict lodged in the Patiala Central Jail, Rajoana's hanging was put on hold earlier this year after the state government sought a presidential pardon for him. The BJP had opposed the state government's clemency plea as the saffron party has always advocated a tough line on terrorism and terrorists.

Nobody appears to be using their own brains. Majority of the Sikhs are just followers (just like sheep). Sikhs have been confused and well divided so they can be easily monitored. We hate each other with passion. Why is this? Back in the days a Sikh respected another Sikhs shadow!!

We can only rescue Punjab if the people outside of Punjab are aware of the issues so they can inform the people in Punjab to try and find a way out.

Sarbat Khalsa is the only way forward. This will have to be done outside of India and only then solutions can be found.

Lol, "zinda shaheed" that makes NO sense.

LOL..maybe the same as Durga title given to u know who ?? OR the Slogan..India is Indira and Indira is INDIA !! How could a nation of 1 Billion be compared to just one female..even a Living DURGA ??...Indians are like THAT....more than ridiculous...most of the time..ha ha.

At least Balwant Singh Rajoanna is ready to KISS the Rope of DEATH as WILLINGLY as Bhagat Singh..but for sure just as Bhagat Singh never made it to the Indian Currency..BS Rajoanna too wont go that far...BUT then the Sikh Nation doesnt "honour" its shaheeds by placing them on pieces of paper that can and are called BLACK...KAALA dhan Kaala mann Kaala Taan.. The Sikhs remember such by adding their names to the daily ardass.japposatnamwaheguru:

<SPAN style="FONT-FAMILY: Verdana; FONT-SIZE: 11pt">Dear Kamala ji<?"urn:

Perhaps I should move the last ‘a’ in your name before ‘l’ – lol - kyon ke tusin kamaal kardey ho (you are full of surprises).

The term ‘zinda shaheed’ is no laughing matter. The term ‘shaheed’ (Arabic origin) not, necessarily, only represents someone who has died for a good cause but also someone who has dedicated his all for his nation – like Rajoana ji.

Wikipedia defines ‘shaheed’ as a term meaning both ‘witness’ and ‘martyr’. Wikipedia defines the term ‘martyr’ as (my highlighting):

“the word martyr, meaning witness, was used in the secular sphere as well as in the new Testament and the Bible. The process of bearing witness was not intended to lead to the death of the witness”…………..”During the early Christian times, the term acquired the extended meaning of a believer who is called to witness for their religious belief, and on account of this witness, endures suffering and/or death.”

There are some whose sacrifices, while still living, can be equated to a thousand deaths. Rajoana ji is one such person.

I hope the above helps.

God Bless.

The construction of the ‘Operation Bluestar' memorial and honouring of death row convict Balwant Singh Rajoana in the precincts of the Golden Temple complex in Amritsar has evoked sharp reactions from various quarters. A special court convicted Rajoana in the case related to assassination of the former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh.
In an initiative, a group of citizens in Chandigarh has launched a campaign to seek a “Memorial for Peace” that would commemorate the spirit of perseverance and eternal resilience of the people of Punjab, as well as reflect the multi-cultural and multi-religious harmonious spirit of the region. The group has issued an appeal which has been signed by Institute of Development and Communication director Pramod Kumar, former Advocate-General R.S. Cheema, political analyst Harish Puri, sociologist Manjit Singh, theatre personalities Neelam Mansingh Chaudhary and Atamjit Singh, bureaucrat-turned-author D.S. Jaspal, and journalists Jagtar Singh and Ramesh Vinayak.
Dr. Kumar said the group was concerned that space was being granted for articulation of extremist and divisive views. The people of Punjab suffered indescribable hardship, trauma and agony in the events culminating in Operation Bluestar and the aftermath was equally painful. The time had come to take pragmatic steps towards closure through the instruments of justice and reconciliation.
Addressing a press conference in Ludhiana, president of the State unit of the Congress, Amarinder Singh, questioned the logic of constructing the memorial after 28 years. He accused Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal of resorting to his previous tactic of retaining his relevance on the political horizon by creating “controlled destabilisation.”
Capt. Singh ridiculed the stance adopted by Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh, who is also the president of the Shiromani Akali Dal, that the government had nothing to do with the construction. He said that everybody knew that the Akali Dal controlled the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and the Akal Takht, under whose aegis the construction had been initiated. He said it was time the Akalis, especially the Badal father-son duo, gave up their double standards.
“An inspiration”
Meanwhile, senior Congress leader and former legislator Sukhpal Singh Khaira, who is supporting the construction of the memorial in his “personal capacity,” said it had been delayed owing to the incapability of the Akali leadership. The memorial would serve as a source of inspiration for the coming generations and provide information about the “Sikh ethos, glorious past and supreme sacrifices made while defending the religion,” he said.
