AMRITSAR: The police have suspended a munshi posted at the local Galliara police post for allegedly keeping a 20-year-old girl in illegal detention at Guru Ram Das serai near Harmandar Sahib.
The girl was locked in a room of the serai since Saturday evening. She was rescued on Sunday.
When media persons reached the spot on Sunday, the munshi, Nirmal Singh, left without disclosing anything.
The serai is being run by the Shiromani Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC).
ADCP City (1) Satpal Joshi and ACP (central) Rahul S. reached the police post and started an investigation. The girl told the media that she was locked up and beaten up by the munshi.
Joshi said, “We have suspended Nirmal Singh. We have also called the girl’s parents from Ludhiana. She will be handed over to them.”
He added, “The girl had come to the police post on Saturday evening and complained that some boys were troubling her.
What happened afterwards and on what grounds she was detained is yet to be established.”
