Ustad Nuzreh Ali Khan is very popular in the US. He composed part of the soundtrack for the movie Dead Man Walking -- a big hit several years back. Although the song was in English and obviously created for a film from Hollywood the qawaali sound was unmistakable. The film was a very tragic story. Probably most Americans hearing that did not understand the art form that was its framework.
