Maken daughter greets parents' killer on his wedding:

[India News] Ludhiana, Sep 25 : Avantika Maken couldn't be physically present on the occasion but a congratulatory telephone call from her on his wedding day put the life of Ranjit Singh Gill alias Kuki on a different track.

Ranjit, who tied the knot Saturday at the age of 40, has an unusual association with Avantika.

He was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment for the cold- blooded murder of her parents - Congress leader Lalit Maken and his wife Geetanjali - 19 years ago.

The two were shot dead by Sikh terrorists outside their New Delhi home when Sikh militancy was at its peak in northern India.

Yet Avantika put the past behind as she greeted Ranjit Saturday when he wed Sarbjot Kaur of Jagraon in a gurdwara near here.

At first instance, this appears to be a great act of forgiveness. Having parents murdered, and then the congratulatory phone call on Ranjit's wedding are certainly applaudable.

On the other side, look at
"She was convinced that I was framed in the assassination case of her parents and that I had already served the sentence," he said.
