Re: watching Hollywood film is good or bad
Karan vir Singh ji,
you don't list an age, so I will assume I am aunty age or even nani age to you. Let me speak to you as a kindly old aunt. gingerteakaur
I have no idea what kind of movies you watch. I am assuming not porn. If you watch those, you are a very naughty boy, but this movie addiction is understandable since Kaam is a very strong force in almost all humans.:grinningsingh:
Assuming, though, it's something a bit less unwholesoime, I wonder what payoff you get from them? Do violent, action-packed films give you a rush and make you feel powerful for the moment? Do comedies fill a void of laughter in your life? I assume these movies you watch are not nature documentaries or History Channel specials. Why do you watch them? I cannot accept that they just fill time. There is more to it than that. Somehow they are stimulating the pleasure centre in your brain. I suggest you find another way to stimulate it. The way to break a bad habit is to replace it with a good habit.
Eating works but makes you fat. (I know. Believe me, I know.) :interestedkudi: Exercise also works, but that takes self-discipline. Not a bad idea actually, a bit of self discipline might help you.

I'm rambling, a common fault of mine. Oh, well, indulge me; I've paid my dues.
I like some movies. Anything
Star Trek, of course, and movies about brave Sikhs and even brave people doing heroic things who aren't Sikhs are among my favourites. Last weekend, I sat almost without moving, engrossed in
The Longest Day. OK, it's unspeakably old and in black and white, but ZOMG! The toughness and courage and humanness of the characters got me carried away. I also will cop to a love of East Asian martial arts movies, from classic Bruce Lee and Toshiro Mifune to some of the more modern stuff, although I prefer a historical setting.
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon I sort of identitfy with.
Most other movies I really like are classics of one sort or another.
Dr. Strangelove," The Producers (1968), MuLan are a few I like a lot.
The point is that I do other things, as well. In fact, I recently cut back on a lot of things I enjoy because there just isn't time to do everything and my spiritual life was suffering. I shut down my FB account with too many friends I didn't know. I resigned a couple of positions that were good in and of themselves, but I felt took too much time. What are left are the really important things. Nitnem, simran and sewa are prominent among them.
Decide for yourself what is important and what your priorities are. Ultimately you will do what is important to you.
About downloading movies on torrent. I don't know anything about that. Maybe I should learn?
I think my signature won't be reproduced here, so I'll c/p it and annoy some people. I just think it relates to this subject.
