AMRITSAR: The chief of Radhasoami sect Gurinder Singh Dhillon on Wednesday paid obeisance at the Golden Temple here.

Dhillon visited the shrine in the morning and took full round of the marbled periphery around the water pool before entering inside the sanctum sanctorum of the Golden Temple.

After paying obeisance, he was given a Siropa (robe of honour) by the priest sitting inside the sanctum sanctorum.

Paramdeep Singh Teja, former Superintendent of Punjab Police, who is currently attached as security officer of the Z plus protectee, was accompanying Dhillon.

No other security personnel were with Dhillon as his visit was kept low profile, sect sources said.

Dhillon spent nearly half an hour inside the Golden Temple, also listened to Kirtan (religious hymns) in the sanctum sanctorum.

He also partook 'Parshad' while standing in the queue with other visiting devotees.

Dhillon has been given Z-plus security cover and last week his security was enhanced significantly when ADGP (Security) of Punjab Police, Dinker Gupta visited the Dera Radha Soami Beas town to review the security arrangements.

Dera Radha Soami also known as Dera Baba Jaimal Singh at Beas town, nearly 45 km away from the Amritsar, has a large number of followers across the country and other parts of the world and is currently headed by Dhillon.

In July 2010, an attempt to kill Dhillon was foiled well in time by the police in Vienna, Austria with the arrest of four persons carrying explosives with them.

After the incident, Dhillon's security cover in India was enhanced.

Waraich Village Gurudwara distrcution: Clean chit to dera radha swami by Giani Gurbachan Singh

By Daljeet Singh
Published: July 30, 2012

Amritsar (July 30,2012): Addressing the media at Amritsar on July 29, 2012 Giani Gurbachan Singh, Jathedar of Akal Takhat, gave clean chit to administrators and followers of Dera Radha Swami, Beas for demolition of a Sikh Gurudwara Sahib in village Waraich.

Local Sikhs and many Sikh organizations had claimed that dera followers had demolished an old Gurdwara at Waraich village in Beas following which the SGPC had set up a three-member probe panel.

SGPC penal was considered to have been set up as per political directions of Badal clan that has close family relations with Dera head besides political interests in the dera. The penal was expected to relieve dera’s from the complexity of situation in which dera was gripped as Sikh organizations had launched series of protests against destruction of Gurudwara Sahib by Dera.

Giani Gurbachan Singh claimed that the committee members visited the site and held deliberations with local residents. It found that hardly any Sikh family was residing near the Gurdwara in question. Hence, it decided to shift the two “birs” of Guru Granth Sahib to Gurdwara Ramsar in Chhamb village according to the Sikh “maryada”.

The report said: “As residents of Waraich village have sold their properties and shifted to other places, it is not possible to manage the gurdwara affairs. Under the circumstances, shifting the Gurdwara is the right thing to do”. The Jathedar said no act of sacrilege had been committed in the village.

So, in an indirect way Giani Gurbachan Singh claimed that Radha Swami dera has restored the Maryada and respect of Gurudwara Sahib by demolishing the Sikh Gurudwara. Sikhs have expressed grief and disappointment of statement by Giani Gurbachan Singh.

“The disputed land belonging to the Warrach panchayat was allegedly sold to Dera Radhasoami without the mandatory approval from the Director, Panchayats” reports The Tribune (TT).

It is notable that Dera Beas has forced the neighbouring villages to sell their land to dera. A large portion of government road that circles around village Waraich has fallen into dera due to illegal land mining by dera. Similarly at Village Jodhan the dera is encroaching over the land of villagers in order to force them to sell their lands to dera by doing illegal mining near lands of village residents.

It is notable that on Saturday, 28 July, 2012 dera goons attacked crew members of Sangat TV (UK) who were talking to residents of Village Jodhan. Dera Radha Swami has a history of attacking media persons who attempt to expose misdeeds and land scams of dera. On May 18, 2008 two journalists Davinder Singh Bhangu of Punjabi Tribune newspaper and Rajinder Rikhi of Dainik Bhaskar newspapers were seriously attacked by Dera followers. Davinder Singh Bhangu was thrown into 35-40 feet deep dig, where as Rajinder Rikhi was abducted. He was badly beaten by dera followers inside the dera.

Sukhbir pays ‘secret visit’ to Dera Beas

Dharmendra Rataul - The Indian Express - Thu Feb 10 2011, 22:46 hrs

Amritsar : With Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal paying a ‘secret visit’ to Dera Radha Soami in Beas, about 40 km from here, on Wednesday, rumour mills are working overtime to gauge the motive of the “unplanned trip”. Not part of his official tour, Sukhbir’s visit to the dera is being linked to the next Assembly elections due in February 2012. According to sources in the party, he suddenly asked his security staff and district officials to plan his “personal visit” to the dera, where he remained with dera head Baba Gurinder Singh Dhillon for more than one hour.

“He was alone when he was meeting Baba. It was a personal visit,” said top sources in the administration, adding that they were not aware what transpired at the meeting. Several political leaders, including UPA chief Sonia Gandhi and BJP supermo L K Advani, had in the past visited the dera that has a huge following and influence in this area, apparently to garner support for their respective parties.

Sources close to Sukhbir said he wanted to pay the visit “alone”. None of the party workers were aware about the visit and the police were taken by surprise when the programme was changed at the last minute.

So highly guarded was the visit that none of the senior police officers was informed and no senior party leader was accompanying him. Due to this change in the schedule, he reached late to various venues where he was to attend functions on Wednesday. “We were surprised why he was running late from the programmes. Everyone maintained a silence and no one spoke on the matter,” said an official.

It is pertinent to mention that the wife of SAD MLA from Majitha and former minister Bikram Singh Majithia, who is Sukhbir’s brother-in-law (wife’s brother), belongs to the family of former dera head Baba Charan Singh, whom Dhillon takes in very high esteem.

Political observers feel the visit was a “strategic move” in the run-up to Assembly elections. None of the Dera functionary was ready to make any comment. The dera that has a huge following in North India usually attracts political leaders from all parties before polls. Congress chief Sonia Gandhi had visited the dera ahead of 2002 Assembly elections, accompanied by Moti Lal Vora, who was then party’s Punjab affairs in-charge.

Expelled Congress leader Natwar Singh had also been a frequent visitor to the dera. Chief Minister parkash Singh Badal and former CM Capt Amarinder Singh, too, have been visiting the place, but it was perhaps Sukhbir’s first visit, which incidentally comes at the crucial time when all political parties in the state are preparing for the next Assembly elections. “During election times, political leaders visit the dera for support. It is obvious that Sukhbir Badal might have gone there for the same,” said Prof Jagroop Singh Sekhon, former head of political science department at Guru Nanak Dev University here.

Majithia, meanwhile, said he was not aware about the visit, while Amritsar Deputy Commissioner K S Pannu said it was the deputy CM’s “personal visit”. SSP (Rural) G S Chauhan said they made security arrangements at the last moment as Sukhbir suddenly “wished to go to the dera”.

Our political leaders are doing dis-service to the Panth. This will go down in history with irreparable damage to legitimate Sikh interests. The down trend in Sikhism in Punjab, the native land of our Gurus, is immense. People returning from Punjab say in villages people with shaved heads call themselves SIKH. Our religious leaders are in deep slumber and I do not know when they will wake up to the occasion. Though there is improvement in Darbar Sahib, the Granthis improving their performance but, selecting Head Granthi for Darbar Sahib requires boldness to select a right person for the high office. The duty and responsibility falls on the concerned members of the selection committee to stand against political pressure imposing an unfit person.
