Akki gives a new spin to Monty Panesar

That Akshay Kumar will play an aspiring cricketer in Bhushan Kumar's Patiala House is known. But guess what? England's first Sikh cricketer, Monty Panesar, has inspired Akki's character.

Apparently, several cricketers have trained Akshay Kumar for his role in this film. Ex cricketers Paras Mhambre and Balvinder Singh Sandhu are among them. They have worked very hard on training Akshay to look and perform like an authentic bowler.

Our source from the unit of the film said, "Incidentally, Akshay plays a Sikh bowler in the film. His character is based in London and wants to represent England in the cricket team as a bowler. However, the story is about the clash between a father and son. Akki plays the son.

The story revolves around his dream of representing England one day. The unit took details and references from various places but mostly from Monty Panesar.

Monty's story is an inspirational one; his struggle to finally make it to the England team is a very powerful one. Though Monty managed to have an impact, of late he has lost his position in the team, as he is out of form."

When contacted, Nikhil Advani, the director of the film, said, "Every piece of art and creative process is inspired by real life. We did a lot of research on the lives of cricketers. But this character is not inspired by one person."
