I think I did a poor job of explaining myself. Of course we have little or no control over our genetics. I've battled with weight myself. All I meant by my statements is that providing good suitable nutrition to a child/children is an increasingly recognised important aspect of parenting. In the UK government people are getting concerned about bad feeding habits parents sometimes raise their children with i.e. sugary, high fat diet with little or no physical activity. I totally agree that it is actually the changing times that are possibly making some traditional diets unsuitable today. Many Sikhs no longer till the land themselves, do hard construction work etc. So yes, whereas the physical nature of traditional job roles negated the effects of certain food stuffs but this has changed. It is our responsibility to adapt accordingly. Here in the UK the SouthEast Asian population has a massive rate of heart disease, diabetes, angina compared to other communities. The long term health implications of poor diet are becoming widely known in the world (i.e. Omega 3,6,9 oils) and Punjab itself is very slowly taking on the keep fit culture that we see elsewhere with gyms etc.
