S Pimpernel ji That is a good question in my opinion. The judge in the shabad lives in the service of the spiritual wayfarers. No where does the shabad say that all these spiritual wayfarers have arrived at the ultimate destination. They are listening to their servant. They can listen to their servant because they have chosen to make the journey. The lunatic has not made this choice, does not engage the servant. The lunatic is not listening It is an interesting point that in Gurbani there is room for the possibility that the spiritual journey can be peopled by individuals at different stages of the journey, and room for the possibility that some others have not even found their way to the road. And it seems rather harsh to judge oneself or another, when the righteous judge is busily occupied serving those who genuinely seek its guidance. The judge is there for the lunatics too...though their plight rings a note of profound sadness. Lunatics scrambling about on the hard scrabble landscape, falling and injuring themselves all the more. Others, who have chosen the journey, creeping forward, or moving quickly, but always with the inner guide. It is also possible in Gurbani for there to be a state of complete moral abandonment. and for those lost to be rescued Gurprasaad. The "judge" puts us "right"...remember that dharma is "rightness"...or in our modern way... the judge puts us straight when we lose our way. Others have forsaken that option and perhaps cannot or will not seek the road and the journey, in order to take the advice of their servant/judge. My supposition: the judge of dharma and the inner knower, the searcher of hearts are related.
