Salok.
Salok (Core theme of eight sabads/hymns in the Astpadi)
Ur ḏẖārai jo anṯar nām. Sarab mai pekẖai bẖagvān.
One who keeps self heart always aware of the creator. Sees the creator embedded in all.
Nimakẖ nimakẖ ṯẖākur namaskārai. Nānak oh apras sagal nisṯārai. ||1||
One thankful to the creator with every blinking moment. Such beyond reproach helps all to salvation.

Asatpaḏī.
Eight stanzas hymn.

Bīj manṯar sarab ko gi▫ān. Cẖahu varnā mėh japai ko▫ū nām.
Creator’s understanding is the source seed in all. Any one from the four classes may seek understanding of the creator.

Jo jo japai ṯis kī gaṯ ho▫e. Sāḏẖsang pāvai jan ko▫e.
All the ones who study reach higher state of living. In the company of the learned only a few will achieve.

Kar kirpā anṯar ur ḏẖārai. Pas pareṯ mugẖaḏ pāthar ka▫o ṯārai.
If the creator blesses and enshrines in the heart. Beasts, ghosts, ignorant, stones are all salvaged.

Sarab rog kā a▫ukẖaḏ nām. Kali▫āṇ rūp mangal guṇ gām.
Of all ills creator’s understanding is the cure. Singing virtues of the creator is of good fortune and salvation.

Kāhū jugaṯ kiṯai na pā▫ī▫ai ḏẖaram. Nānak ṯis milai jis likẖi▫ā ḏẖur karam. ||5||
No other methods including religious help obtain. Nanak one so receiving is so blessed from the beginning.
ESSENCE: In the salok, Guru ji define who to be beyond reproach. Constantly aware of the creator, sees creator embedded in all, thankful to the creator in every living moment, such is the guide to salvation.

Guru Arjan Dev ji in Astpadi 9, 5th stanza describe how understanding of the creator is a fundamental and available to all. Understanding of the creator is source to all, anyone can so seek without discrimination, it does not come easy and with creator’s blessing is enshrined in the heart, all myths and misunderstandings dissipate, the understanding is like a cure to much ills and understanding is salvation.

Guru ji conclude religious regimen being of little use and good fortune from the beginning is the key.
Please note all errors are mine and I stand corrected.

Just so I can try and emulate a certain mindset, surely this means that the SGGS validates the caste system!whislingmunda

On a more pragmatic note this confirms my belief that we are born hard wired to know and understand from within what is already written, it is a wonderful way to start the day to read these, thank you

Harry Veer ji our Guru ji never sugar coated what existed. Class system was a strong influence perpetrated by Hinduism at that time. So when Hinduism was reserving wisdom for Brahmins and the Brahmins were guarding so with their lives, Guru ji told all the classes that existed rather than say such was not the case. Guru ji stated, anyone can understand and that classes perpetrated by Hinduism had no meaning in such endeavors. Indirectly got rid of the Brahmin inter mediation and control of the masses.

Guru ji's statements were untarnished by the political crappola of the dominant religions prevailing then.

Let us transpose Guru ji to present day India. If he said this today in India, so called "Om Shanti Om" group will point to the constitution of India, the Civil Laws, the scheduled caste bills, etc. You or anyone thinks that Guru ji will attend a posh party hosted by one of the leading Brahmins and say let us forget about it, it does not exist in India.

To the contrary the Guru ji would have possibly spoken up even more strongly about the hypocrisy and falsehoods of the "have's" versus the "have not's". The people who want to hide behind ineffective fake walls fear this the most in Sikhism. Sikhism takes the Emperor's clothes away.
