Salok.
Salok (Core theme of eight sabads/hymns in the Astpadi)
ਮਨਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਸੋਇ ॥ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਪੇਖੈ ਏਕਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਕੋਇ ॥
Man sācẖā mukẖ sācẖā so▫e. Avar na pekẖai ekas bin ko▫e.
One whose mind is pure, only can such can utter pure. None is seen other than one creator.
ਨਾਨਕ ਇਹ ਲਛਣ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥
Nānak ih lacẖẖaṇ barahm gi▫ānī ho▫e. ||1||
Nanak, these are the attributes of such most learned

ਅਸਟਪਦੀ ॥

ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਕਾ ਬੇਤਾ ॥ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਏਕ ਸੰਗਿ ਹੇਤਾ ॥
Barahm gi▫ānī barahm kā beṯā. Barahm gi▫ānī ek sang heṯā.
Most learned becomes a witness to the creator. Most learned has love of but one.

ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕੈ ਹੋਇ ਅਚਿੰਤ ॥ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕਾ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਮੰਤ ॥
Barahm gi▫ānī kai ho▫e acẖinṯ. Barahm gi▫ānī kā nirmal manṯ.
Most learned carries no worries. Most learned’s teachings are sublime.

ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਜਿਸੁ ਕਰੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਪਿ ॥ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕਾ ਬਡ ਪਰਤਾਪ ॥
Barahm gi▫ānī jis karai parabẖ āp. Barahm gi▫ānī kā bad parṯāp.
Most learned is so made by the creator. Most learned is glory incarnate.

ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕਾ ਦਰਸੁ ਬਡਭਾਗੀ ਪਾਈਐ ॥ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕਉ ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਈਐ ॥
Barahm gi▫ānī kā ḏaras badbẖāgī pā▫ī▫ai. Barahm gi▫ānī ka▫o bal bal jā▫ī▫ai.
Most learned is encountered through good fortune. Most learned be praised so always.

ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕਉ ਖੋਜਹਿ ਮਹੇਸੁਰ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਆਪਿ ਪਰਮੇਸੁਰ ॥੬॥
Barahm gi▫ānī ka▫o kẖojėh mahesur. Nānak barahm gi▫ānī āp parmesur. ||6||
The deities seek out the most learned. Nanak, most learned by self is like a creator by self.

ESSENCE: In the salok, Guru ji talk about the esteemed wise. One with pure mind, pure speech and recognizing of but one creator.

Guru Arjan Dev ji in Astpadi 8, 6th stanza/hymn describe relationship of the most esteemed with the creator. Such is a witness to but one creator, sublime and worry free, appears to be so made by the creator and glorious, fortune get to see the esteemed learned and such is beyond praise.

Guru ji conclude that the esteemed learned is sought even by such as deities and is creator incarnate.

As you are aware my knowledge of bani is minimal, I know only what I have picked up through doing everything my dear Pitaji told me not to. However, this line shouts out to me that there are those that seek what they do not know, everywhere, but their own hearts.

Guruji tells us that the only place to seek learning is in our own self, in our own hearts, and to eradicate all traces of doubt as to what the truth is.
