ਸਲੋਕੁ ॥
Salok.
Salok (Core theme of eight sabads/hymns in the Astpadi)

ਸਰਬ ਕਲਾ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਾਨਨਹਾਰ ॥ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਸਿਮਰਨਿ ਉਧਰੀਐ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਲਿਹਾਰ ॥੧॥
Sarab kalā bẖarpūr parabẖ birthā jānanhār. Jā kai simran uḏẖrī▫ai Nānak ṯis balihār. ||1||
Creator has all power and is knowing of suffering. Nanak forever respectfully appreciates, in contemplation of such we are saved.

ਅਸਟਪਦੀ॥
Asatpaḏī.
Eight stanzas hymn

ਟੂਟੀ ਗਾਢਨਹਾਰ ਪਾਲ+ਗ ॥ ਸਰਬ ਜੀਆ ਆਪੇ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲ ॥
Tūtī gādẖanhār gopāl. Sarab jī▫ā āpe parṯipāl.
Mender of the broken thread and supporter creator of all. Support provider for all life.

ਸਗਲ ਕੀ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ॥ ਤਿਸ ਤੇ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਕੋਈ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
Sagal kī cẖinṯā jis man māhi. Ŧis ṯe birthā ko▫ī nāhi.
One that has cares of all in mind. No one goes empty handed from such.

ਰੇ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਜਾਪਿ ॥ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ॥
Re man mere saḏā har jāp. Abẖināsī parabẖ āpe āp.
My mind always contemplate on the creator. Indestructible creator is by self of self.

ਆਪਨ ਕੀਆ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥ ਜੇ ਸਉ ਪ੍ਰਾਨੀ ਲੋਚੈ ਕੋਇ ॥
Āpan kī▫ā kacẖẖū na ho▫e. Je sa▫o parānī locẖai ko▫e.
One’s own endeavor accomplishes nothing. Even if a person wishes so hundred times.

ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਤੇਰੈ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਾਮ ॥ ਗਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਪਿ ਏਕ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ॥੧॥
Ŧis bin nāhī ṯerai kicẖẖ kām. Gaṯ Nānak jap ek har nām. ||1||
Without such nothing is of use. Nanak salvation is through contemplating on the creator.

ESSENCE: In the salok, Guru ji describe the creator as all powerful and knowing of all. We are saved in respectful contemplation of such and to be so thankful.

Guru Arjan Dev ji in Astpadi 15, 1st sabad describe a creator that mends and provides support. Such has cares of all in recognition and no one is left un-served, need to contemplate the self created, wishing a hundred times by self does not achieve.

Guru ji conclude that without the creator and contemplation of such, all bears nothing of use.
