Guru ji conclude that it is the humility of being like dirt under others feet that identifies the pure and the pious.
Please note all errors are mine and I stand corrected.

(State of no thought or nothing in mind) ਬਸੈ (Dwell) ਮਸਕੀਨੀਆ (humble one) ਆਪੁ (self) ਨਿਵਾਰਿ ਤਲੇ (transcends down to actions)

State of no thought dwells in humble ones, whose thoughts self (without effort) transcends in actions,
i.e. humble beings with noble thoughts ( helping needy, sat sangat, sharing, caring, etc) can transcend in actions.

but egoist thoughts of mind (posession of power, position, space, higher education etc),
those thought may die within mind (garbh for thoughts).

thought which one can turn in actions cause bliss state
(state of no thinking) refer as "Sukhi" of humble beings

and egoist thoughts which can not mature in actions causes "Dukh"

Guru's Bani explains the "state of no thing in mind" of humble beings and elaborated further

ਅਨਿਕ Lot ਤਪਸਿਆ hard efforts ਕਰੇ do ਅਹੰਕਾਰ mind's egoist thought
ਨਰਕ Negativity ਸੁਰਗ positvity ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ again and again ਅਵਤਾਰ born and die

With one's egoist thought, one's body performs lot of actions,
under the influence of one's own ego,
without understanding of "SAT" one performs action.
And the results of physical actions
if are in tune with thoughts one feels "sukhi" due to offload of desire,
and "dukhi" as moe efforts is required.

"Sukh" and "Dukh" in physical terms is

For any thought in mind after performing physical act
if one achieves results as desired by one's own mind one feels sukhi,
else one is "dukhi"

"Sukh" and "Dukh" in spiritual terms is

Mind in free state "nothing in mind" is "Sukhi" offload of desire
Mind in occupied state "thing in mind" or "desires in mind" is "dukhi" upload of desire.

In reality "sukh" and "dukh" are one's own state without awareness of creator.

Here one important thing to note is that Guru Sahib is considering narak surag as similar things, maybe because both are imaginary?
Kanwaljit Singh veer ji this is a wonderful example to illustrate and understand what Guru ji's style of teaching is to convey guidance to people who were linked to certain thoughts or regimen.

Regimen people were guided by the Hiduism or like controllers:

ਅਨਿਕ ਤਪਸਿਆ ਕਰੇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਨਰਕ ਸੁਰਗ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਅਵਤਾਰ

  • A methodology taught or believed or practiced to lead to salvation by the practitioners

  • Why this could not be effective or worthwhile was the missing ingredients or ingredients not befitting. In this case ਅਹੰਕਾਰ/ Ego.
  • This was to show that certain actions in themselves were not the bearer of results if key aspects of being and creator/creation are ignored.

  • So the supposed benefit of ਤਪਸਿਆ /(hard body deprivation of senses) was to find salvation from,
    • The cycles of birth and death considered bad by the believers of people doing
Guru ji just so illustrated a considered high practice of the times, with incomplete linkages to the consideration of what one is and how creator is, targeted to achieve goals considered good by the practitioners, that could not be achieved.
Time and again in Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji our Guru ji's and others challenge such blind faith, incomplete tangential regimens which promised achievements not possible.

Unfortunately for Sikhism, some people are going to now try to mis-direct the message as follows,

  • Guru ji believe in ਤਪਸਿਆ /Hard body regimens driven through deprivation
  • Guru ji believe in ਨਰਕ ਸੁਰਗ / Hell-Heaven
  • Guru ji believe in re-incarnation by saying cycle of Birth-Death
Such doubt creators, mis-interpretors abound with a mission and followers of teachings coming from the Babeys/Sants/Mahraj's/Dehras/Sects, etc.

Of course one can have honest misunderstandings and it is no big deal but many a times it is not so. Unfortunate for Sikhism and the sanctitiy of our Guru ji's thoughts and the messages in Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, this is quite an uphill battle.

Who am I to say so other that to be so sad to see it so!
