ਸਲੋਕੁ ॥
Salok.
Salok (Core theme of eight sabads/hymns in the Astpadi)

ਕਰਣ ਕਾਰਣ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਏਕੁ ਹੈ ਦੂਸਰ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਲਿਹਾਰਣੈ ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਮਹੀਅਲਿ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥
Karaṇ kāraṇ parabẖ ek hai ḏūsar nāhī ko▫e. Nānak ṯis balihārṇai jal thal mahī▫al so▫e. ||1||
Creator of creation and doer is one and there is no second. Nanak so such be exalted for which there is water, land and all above it.

ਅਸਟਪਦੀ॥
Asatpaḏī.
Eight stanzas hymn

ਕਬਹੂ ਹੋਇ ਪੰਡਿਤੁ ਕਰੇ ਬਖ੍ਯ੍ਯਾਨੁ ॥ ਕਬਹੂ ਮੋਨਿਧਾਰੀ ਲਾਵੈ ਧਿਆਨੁ ॥
Kabhū ho▫e pandiṯ kare bakẖ▫yān. Kabhū moniḏẖārī lāvai ḏẖi▫ān.
At times like learned one, delivers discourses. At times behaves as a silent contemplator.

ਕਬਹੂ ਤਟ ਤੀਰਥ ਇਸਨਾਨ ॥ ਕਬਹੂ ਸਿਧ ਸਾਧਿਕ ਮੁਖਿ ਗਿਆਨ ॥
Kabhū ṯat ṯirath isnān. Kabhū siḏẖ sāḏẖik mukẖ gi▫ān.
At times taking baths at places of pilgrimage. At times speaks like the pious learned and contemplators.

ਕਬਹੂ ਕੀਟ ਹਸਤਿ ਪਤੰਗ ਹੋਇ ਜੀਆ ॥ ਅਨਿਕ ਜੋਨਿ ਭਰਮੈ ਭਰਮੀਆ ॥
Kabhū kīt hasaṯ paṯang ho▫e jī▫ā. Anik jon bẖarmai bẖarmī▫ā.
At times like an insect, elephant or moth. Many a transformations such circles in.

ਨਾਨਾ ਰੂਪ ਜਿਉ ਸ੍ਵਾਗੀ ਦਿਖਾਵੈ ॥ ਜਿਉ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਵੈ ਨਚਾਵੈ ॥
Nānā rūp ji▫o savāgī ḏikẖāvai. Ji▫o parabẖ bẖāvai ṯivai nacẖāvai.
Many a persona such a person shows like an actor. As the creator likes, such dances so.

ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋਈ ਹੋਇ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੂਜਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥੭॥
Jo ṯis bẖāvai so▫ī ho▫e. Nānak ḏūjā avar na ko▫e. ||7||
What pleases so, such happens. Nanak there is no such second.

ESSENCE: In the salok, Guru ji state that many try to describe the creator but such is limitless. The creator creates with a variety of methods and of different types.

Guru Arjan Dev ji in Astpadi 11, 7th sabad first describe many displays of humanity. At times like a scholar, a silent contemplator, doing bathing pilgrimages, acts like pious scholars, many varieties of life from insects to elephants, many transformations, like an actor as the creator likes so such acts.

Guru ji conclude that what is liked by the creator happens and there is no one else.
