ਸਲੋਕੁ ॥
Salok.
Salok (Core theme of eight sabads/hymns in the Astpadi)
ਕਰਣ ਕਾਰਣ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਏਕੁ ਹੈ ਦੂਸਰ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਲਿਹਾਰਣੈ ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਮਹੀਅਲਿ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥
Karaṇ kāraṇ parabẖ ek hai ḏūsar nāhī ko▫e.Nānak ṯis balihārṇai jal thal mahī▫al so▫e. ||1||
Creator of creation and doer is one and there is no second. Nanak so such be exalted for which there is water, land and all above it.

ਅਸਟਪਦੀ॥
Asatpaḏī.
Eight stanzas hymn

ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਨੀਚ ਕੀਟ ਕਉ ਰਾਜ ॥ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਰੀਬ ਨਿਵਾਜ ॥
Kẖin mėh nīcẖ kīt ka▫o rāj.Pārbarahm garīb nivāj.
In a moment a low insect may receive kingdom. Supreme creator protects the poor.

ਜਾ ਕਾ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥ਤਿਸੁ ਤਤਕਾਲ ਦਹ ਦਿਸ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਾਵੈ ॥
Jā kā ḏarisat kacẖẖū na āvai.Ŧis ṯaṯkāl ḏah ḏis paragtāvai.
One who is showing no virtue. Such suddenly gets status in all directions.

ਜਾ ਕਉ ਅਪੁਨੀ ਕਰੈ ਬਖਸੀਸ ॥ਤਾ ਕਾ ਲੇਖਾ ਨ ਗਨੈ ਜਗਦੀਸ ॥
Jā ka▫o apunī karai bakẖsīs.Ŧā kā lekẖā na ganai jagḏīs.
Such as are provided so blessing. Such are not so scrutinized by the creator.

ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਸਭ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਰਾਸਿ ॥ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸ ॥
Jī▫o pind sabẖ ṯis kī rās.Gẖat gẖat pūran barahm pargās.
Soul and body are such’s treasure. All bodies are so enshrined and illuminated by the creator.

ਅਪਨੀ ਬਣਤ ਆਪਿ ਬਨਾਈ ॥ਨਾਨਕ ਜੀਵੈ ਦੇਖਿ ਬਡਾਈ ॥੪॥
Apnī baṇaṯ āp banā▫ī.Nānak jīvai ḏekẖ badā▫ī. ||4||
Own creation so created by self. Nanak lives as witness to such greatness.

ESSENCE: In the salok, Guru ji state that many try to describe the creator but such is limitless. The creator creates with a variety of methods and of different types.

Guru Arjan Dev ji in Astpadi 11, 4th sabad cite examples of creator’s being. Turning low life into kingdom, the poor and the neglected find status, one’s so blessed find no scrutiny, all bodies and so belonging to the creator and so enlightened.

Guru ji conclude a creator self generating and be so witness to this in living.
