ਸਲੋਕੁ ॥
Salok.
Salok (Core theme of eight sabads/hymns in the Astpadi)

ਉਸਤਤਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਅਨੇਕ ਜਨ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਰਾਵਾਰ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਰਚਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਰਚੀ ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਅਨਿਕ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ ॥੧॥
Usṯaṯ karahi anek jan anṯ na pārāvār. Nānak racẖnā parabẖ racẖī baho biḏẖ anik parkār. ||1||
Many people praise thee but there are no limits to such. Nanak, the creator architected this universe with many methods of different types.

ਅਸਟਪਦੀ॥
Asatpaḏī.
Eight stanzas hymn

ਕਈ ਕੋਟਿ ਹੋਏ ਪੂਜਾਰੀ ॥ ਕਈ ਕੋਟਿ ਆਚਾਰ ਬਿਉਹਾਰੀ ॥
Ka▫ī kot ho▫e pūjārī. Ka▫ī kot ācẖār bi▫uhārī.
Many millions are worshippers. Many millions carry out religious rituals.

ਕਈ ਕੋਟਿ ਭਏ ਤੀਰਥ ਵਾਸੀ ॥ ਕਈ ਕੋਟਿ ਬਨ ਭ੍ਰਮਹਿ ਉਦਾਸੀ ॥
Ka▫ī kot bẖa▫e ṯirath vāsī. Ka▫ī kot ban bẖarmėh uḏāsī.
Many millions are residents at places of pilgrimage. Many millions renunciates wander in the forests.

ਕਈ ਕੋਟਿ ਬੇਦ ਕੇ ਸ੍ਰੋਤੇ ॥ ਕਈ ਕੋਟਿ ਤਪੀਸੁਰ ਹੋਤੇ ॥
Ka▫ī kot beḏ ke saroṯe. Ka▫ī kot ṯapīsur hoṯe.
Many millions listen to Vedas. Many millions are in contrition.

ਕਈ ਕੋਟਿ ਆਤਮ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਧਾਰਹਿ ॥ ਕਈ ਕੋਟਿ ਕਬਿ ਕਾਬਿ ਬੀਚਾਰਹਿ ॥
Ka▫ī kot āṯam ḏẖi▫ān ḏẖārėh. Ka▫ī kot kab kāb bīcẖārėh.
Many millions internally search their soul. Many millions do poetic expressions.

ਕਈ ਕੋਟਿ ਨਵਤਨ ਨਾਮ ਧਿਆਵਹਿ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਰਤੇ ਕਾ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਵਹਿ ॥੧॥
Ka▫ī kot navṯan nām ḏẖi▫āvahi. Nānak karṯe kā anṯ na pāvahi. ||1||
Many millions contemplate everyday on the creator. Nanak, the creator cannot be discovered to the limit.

ESSENCE: In the salok, Guru ji state that many try to describe the creator but such is limitless. The creator creates with a variety of methods and of different types.

Guru Arjan Dev ji in Astpadi 10, 1st sabad describe many ways of the world to find and understand the creator. Many millions worship, carry out rituals, live in places of pilgrimage, renounce and go to hills, read Vedas, live in contrition, search internally and reflect on poetry.

Guru ji conclude that millions even so contemplating cannot define limits of the creator.

Even if we focus ourselves to be similar to the tiny amount we know of Creator, this is enough than trying to figure out the impossible

Harry veer that is exactly the message.

A "little" is better than nothing. A "little more" is better than little, so continue to understand more and live better incrementally. Searching to get or understand "all" is futile. The last sentence is a very strong and unflinching message in Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji that say Prakash.S.Bagga ji and many others of Sanatan thought cannot relate to. They personify a deity and say "that is it", the give a name "Shiva" and say that is it; and so on. These are falsehoods which become translated into names like "Prabhu", "Guroo" with defined and determined or totally know virtues. That is the fallacy and a core distinction between Sikhism and Hinduism and other 'isms.

A shabad in theme of little by little:

ਆਸਾ ॥
Aasaa:

ਮਨੁ ਮੇਰੋ ਗਜੁ ਜਿਹਬਾ ਮੇਰੀ ਕਾਤੀ ॥
My mind is the yardstick, and my tongue is the scissors.

ਮਪਿ ਮਪਿ ਕਾਟਉ ਜਮ ਕੀ ਫਾਸੀ ॥੧॥
I measure it out and cut off the noose of death. ||1||

ਕਹਾ ਕਰਉ ਜਾਤੀ ਕਹ ਕਰਉ ਪਾਤੀ ॥
What do I have to do with social status? What do I have to with ancestry?

ਰਾਮ ਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਉ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
I meditate on the Name of the Lord, day and night. ||1||Pause||

ਰਾਂਗਨਿ ਰਾਂਗਉ ਸੀਵਨਿ ਸੀਵਉ ॥
I dye myself in the color of the Lord, and sew what has to be sewn.

ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨੁ ਘਰੀਅ ਨ ਜੀਵਉ ॥੨॥
Without the Lord's Name, I cannot live, even for a moment. ||2||

ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਉ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵਉ ॥
I perform devotional worship, and sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord.

ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਅਪਨਾ ਖਸਮੁ ਧਿਆਵਉ ॥੩॥
Twenty-four hours a day, I meditate on my Lord and Master. ||3||

ਸੁਇਨੇ ਕੀ ਸੂਈ ਰੁਪੇ ਕਾ ਧਾਗਾ ॥
My needle is gold, and my thread is silver.

ਨਾਮੇ ਕਾ ਚਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਸਉ ਲਾਗਾ ॥੪॥੩॥
Naam Dayv's mind is attached to the Lord. ||4||3||
