LAHORE: Sikhs from across the world marked the 171st death anniversary of Maharaja Ranjit Singh at the Gurdwara Dera Sahib in which the rituals of the concluding ceremony were performed.

The Evacuee Trust Property Board managed the festivities and accommodated the Sikhs.

ETPB Additional Secretary Shrines Muhammad Khuram Sadique said the government was providing maximum facilities to minorities and that they had complete liberty to perform their religious duties. He said that the yatrees’ lodging and boarding expenses were borne by the government of Pakistan and they were provided with full security to move freely in holy places during their visit to the country.

He said that many development works had been made in gurdawaras with new rooms and toilets being made and a new electrical system being installed at the Gurdawara Dera Sahib. Sikh leader Amar Jeet Singh said Pakistan was like a second home to the minority group. “Both countries should negotiate to resolve their problems. We should ignore the past, look to the future and try to live like friends,” he added.
