Sikh bodies to file plea on ’84 riots before UNHRC

The Sikh Students Federation (SSF) and Sikhs for Justice (SJ) are embarking on a campaign to gather affidavits and necessary evidence, documents and data, concerning the November 1984 anti-Sikh riots in order to file a petition before the United Nations Human Rights Commission (UNHRC).
Addressing mediapersons at a press conference here today, SSF president Karnail Singh Peermohammad said that the SSF is also launching a campaign titled Sewa Sambhal Lehar under which financial assistance to the tune of Rs 25,000 will be provided at the marriage of a daughter of a riot victim’s family.
Jagdish Kaur, a key witness against former Congress MP Sajjan Kumar, who has been accused of fomenting the riots, will head this campaign, he added. Collection of information and documents relating to these riots will begin on January 6, 2011, to coincide with the death anniversary of Satwant Singh, one of Indira Gandhi’s assassi
