Chandigarh: Demanding the setting up of a special investigation team (SIT) to probe the anti-Sikh riots, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today said if such a team could be formed to look into the post-Godhra riots of Gujarat then why could the government not do the same in this case.
"When day to day hearing can be ordered in Gujarat riots that took place in 2002 and chief minister Narendra Modi can be summoned for questioning by the SIT, why Congress led UPA government is reluctant to ensure expeditious justice to 7,000 Sikhs families waiting for justice for last 25 years", said Daljit Singh Cheema, secretary and spokesperson of the ruling SAD.
He alleged that people have lost faith in impartiality of CBI, therefore, the Supreme Court should constitute a Special Investigation Team comprising police officers with impeccable record to investigate the anti-Sikh riots case.
The Punjab Congress leadership must put pressure on their high command to not shelter Jagdish Tytler and Sajjan Kumar and must ensure speedy expedition of the trial.
