The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has constituted a team of historians to “rewrite Sikh history in the right perspective”, SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar has said.
Talking to Daily Post, he said “the true history based on facts and figures” would be published by SGPC in leading world languages and made available online.
“We have already lost important evidence in the shape of buildings and have converted holy shrines into just marble marvels for which the future generations would never forgive us. History needs proof and if such a trend continues, we will have nothing to convince our progeny about our glorious history,” Jathedar Makkar said.
The SGPC president said that the supreme Sikh elected body had started preserving historical places with the renovation of the ‘Jahaji Haveli’ of Diwan Todar Mal at Fatehgarh Sahib.
“In the next phase, the SGPC is going to reconstruct ‘Thanda Burj’, where the younger Sahibzadas of Guru Gobind Singh were kept along with Mata Gujri before their martyrdom,” said the SGPC president. The SGPC will also reconstruct the ‘Kachi Garhi’ of Chamkaur Sahib which was gheraoed by Mughal forces and in front of which the elder Sahibzadas of Guru Gobind Singh along with a handful of Sikhs had sacrificed their lives.
He said that the ‘kothri’ (small mud house) in which Guru Nanak Dev was kept during the Modi Khanna issue had also been converted into a marble construction. “Likewise, there are many such places which have lost their original glory and it was time to save or reconstruct their original look,” he said.
