Bhindranwale row: BJP reiterates stand on memorial, remove controversial objects Monday, May, 13 2013 - 13:20 BATHINDA: Punjab BJP president Kamal Sharma once again while reiterating his stand on Bluestar memorial said his party will give ample time to coalition partner Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) to remove all the objects glorifying Khalistani terrorist Jarnail Singh Bhindrnawale from the memorial. Sharma said after BJP had expressed its reservations on the memorial, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee had removed some of the controversial objects but there are few inscriptions on marble slabs.Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has set up a committee to resolve the issue, but a few radicals have been trying to create hurdles, he added. He said, radicalism is detrimental not only to interests of Punjab but the entire nation.Sharma further said Punjab has already paid heavy price for the violence.Meanwhile, Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Partap Singh Bajwa had Parkash Singh Badal for playing politics of religion and appeasing the radical elements to meet his narrow political ends. He warned Punjabis against dangerous designs of SAD. He asked Badal if he wanted to prove his secular credentials he should set up a ‘peace memorial’ in the memory of 33,000 innocent Punjabis who lost lives due to terrorism. He said religious card played by Badal in the early 80s was responsible for spurt of terrorism in the state. The executive committee of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee at its meeting last week preferred to skip over the controversy over naming the Operation Bluestar memorial after Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale.
