China made a strategic blunder by initiating a Military stand-of with India Because: A. China opened so many fronts at the same time: Hong Kong, Taiwan, South China Sea, India etc. These multiple fronts conveyed the message that China is basically expansionist and bent upon taking confrontation with every nation. B. China was already facing huge isolation and criticism on the issue of Covid-19. She refuses to cooperate with the global community to investigate the origin of Covid pandemic. Even she threatened countries like Australia for demanding an investigation. As this was not sufficient, China initiated border stand-off with India in May 2020 without any provocation from India. This tilted global opinion against China. C. China also could not judge the strategic moves of the. The US. China’s confrontational measures in the South China Sea and India gave the US an opportunity to mobilize a strategic front against China. The US deployed three aircraft carriers in the South China Sea to warn China against any misadventure in the region. This also convinced China to maintain restraint as the Chinese navy is no match for the USD naval force. D. China also could not calculate the determination and resolve of India to resist China’s military designs on the border. India not only mobilized adequate forces and weapons along the border in Ladakh but also conveyed to China in no uncertain terms that India would not stop infrastructure building along the border and would not compromise on the status quo at the LAC as it was in April 2020. E. China faces huge pressure on the future of her massive investment in CPEC through POK which is claimed by India. It made this blunder to intimidate India in order to please Pakistan. It boomeranged. These all strategic factors were against China, but China could not appreciate those factors. The outcome is for all to see. He has not only agreed to withdraw from the advanced position along the LAC but is facing a defensive position in the South China Sea in front of the US forces.
