Sukhpal Singh Khaira, MLA from Bholath assembly constituency called upon the Sikh Congress workers and supporters to enroll as many workers as possible for the ensuing SGPC elections to oppose the SAD-sponsored candidates.
Khaira was addressing a rally of Congress workers after inaugurating the new office of the District Congress Committee here on WEdnesday.
Khaira, who is also the president of the Kapurthala District Congress Committee, said although the Congress was a secular party and could not put candidates to fight the SGPC elections, it is their duty to save the Sikh institutions like SGPC and Akal Takht from the Badal family.
He alleged that the Badal family had destroyed and politicised the SGPC for their personal and political ends.
Khaira said the Badal government had failed on all fronts as the state faced the severe financial crunch, government had no money to pay salaries to its employees.
District Youth Congress President Jagjit Singh Bittu, former DCC chief Navtej Singh Cheema were present in the function.
