A man shot dead his teenaged daughter and her lover in a fit of rage after finding them together at his home in Chandpurana village, the police said on Thursday.
Jaspal Singh was infuriated after he found his daughter Luvpreet Kaur (17) with Harjinder Singh (22), who was a neighbour, in her room around midnight, they said. “We have been told that the girl had called the boy to her room. In a fit of rage Jaspal Singh first shot his daughter and later shot the boy,” Moga SSP Snehdeep Sharma said, adding that the accused was absconding.
Jaspal also shot and injured Harjinder’s brother Kulwinder, who had rushed in on hearing cries of help. He has been admitted to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital in Ludhiana. The police said Harjinder had an attempted murder case against him and was out on bail.
Sharma said that Harjinder was a Mazhabi Sikh and the girl a Jatt Sikh. Police have registered a case under various sections, including the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
