Jun 17, 2004
POLICE caught thieves stripping lead from a Sikh temple today.

Officers were called to Hillhouse Lane in Hillhouse shortly before 4.15am.

They arrived within minutes to see two suspects on the temple roof.

The pair, aged 15 and 17, tried to escape but were arrested at about 4.30am.

A third suspect has not been caught.
Police enquiries are continuing and officers are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Insp Nick Harvey of Kirklees police said: "This was a good result, with our response officers getting to the scene very quickly and being able to arrest two of the suspects, both of whom are currently being questioned.

"We treat lead thefts very seriously as they cause expensive damage to property and in this case, have damaged a focal point of the community.

"This is not something that we will tolerate."
