Rakhhrree is a NON-SIKHI (anmatee) celebration or tiohaar. Various reasons are given for its usage - that this gives the brother an ocassion to "help" his sisters...but giivng Rs100 once a year is NOT Help....Genuine HELP would be accept the Civil LAW and willingly ACCEPT the DAUGHTERS' RIGHT to PROPERTY in Ancestral land/House/Property. Although this LAW exists, the BROTHERS always push out their sisters and never give them their share of the Father's property ( its just accepted that the daughters will just NOT get anything form the Parents !!!) So in actual practice the Rs100 a year on Rakhree is NOT HELP but CHARITY !!..that also the cheapest kind fit only for BEGGARS and not a sign of love. This Rakhrree celebration is actually a hidden way of Male Dominance - in Asian Society where the Male Brother/Son/Father/Uncle etc insist that they DECIDE "Family Honour" and under this guise kill daughters/sisters/females under accusation that Family Honour has been compromised by the female actions. Just like a cow/bugffalo is kept under control by its Nose-ring..so is a woman kept under control by the rakhrree thread (albeit in a sly hidden way) How is a THREAD supposed to make Brotherly/ssiterly love grow ? How does the Love between Mother/son/wife/hisband/father/daughter "grow" and why no Thread is needed in those cases ? After marriage, who is responsible for the daughter ? Husband ? Brother ? How is just ONE DAY eneough to show this Love ? Does the Thread only act upon the SISTER ?? It is not applicable to the other relations ? Guur Nanak ji in front of aLarge Crowd REFUSED to tie the JANEAU and REJECTED a mere THREAD as anything spiritual ? And this assertion is written in His Gurbani by Guru nanak ji Himslef ? Yet under a hidden ulterior motive, He is shown accepting a "rakhhree thread" from his sister Bebeh nanki. Truth is Guru nanak would be equally REJECTING nay such Fake THREADS. Historically its accepted that the Brother is responsible for the security of his sister and its cemented by the Rakhree Thread..but where were these brothers when the Mughals took away young girls by the Hundred Thousands and sold them as slaves in the Markets of Kabul kandhaar. It was the SIKHS who rescued these by attacking the Slave Trains and caravans as they passed through the Punjab. History is evidence that NO SIKH General ever had anyone tie Rakhree but each one provided security to all women regardless of religions caste etc. A SIKHI ORIENTED SISTER should NOT tie any Threads but take a promise form the brother: Wear the Dastaar and keep the kakaars Keep High Character and Open Mind Help all women - who are not even your sisters Perform well in Secular education and also pay attention to religious education to develop spiritually Stay Away from Bad company and keep other brothers away as well Make yourself Paras so that anyone nearby becomes pure Gold THEN as a SISTER I am proud to call you my BROTHER....this is what a Sikhi Oriented sister should do......not waste money on a commercially driven fake celebration.
