Amrit vela (ambrosial hours) described by the Gurus as 'Amrit vela sach(u) naon vadiai veechar(u) (Japu: 5:2). It is the time when we recite God's Name and discuss His Greatness. Bhai Gurdas writes," Sat(i)gur ka jo Sikh akhae. su bhalke uth(i) har(i) nam(u) dhiae' meaning 'The one who calls himself as the Sikh of Satguru, gets up early in the morning and meditates on God's Name." Generally, Amrit Vela is three hours before the sunrise". This is the time free from noise, the hustle-bustle, ear-piercing sounds etc. The entire nature silently revels in the Divine Glory. Divine and Nature are completely united. The harmony enters the soul of the early riser and fixes his mind on the Divine Name. The previous night sleep has given rest and calmness to the mind making one fresh and fit. Fixing of attention on the Divine with a sound mind and body provides peace, tranquillity and spiritual upliftment. Divine waves are radiated helping early riser devotee of God. For the coming day, the peaceful spiritually blessed mind finds dealing with a daily core in an easier manner. But It does not bind us to time. Practically speaking it may be any time when we recite His Name and discuss His Greatness or praise Him and we are not in the attraction zone of the material world. Since all the materials around us attract during the day and even up to the late-night, the earlier hours turn out to be the best to get connected to Him. I have found this time to meditate on Him and to be with Him as the best. Though as a routine even during the long walk in the morning or travelling to someplace, it is automatic that His Name is continuously recited. I have been reciting 5 Paudis of Japuji before each of my exam papers because my mother told me so and I followed it till date.
